Hey guys,

I've been doing alot of research for a vh45de swap into an s-chassis. The pick n pull in my area has a 92 Q45 which I plan to pull the motor from in the next few weeks. Are there any tips you guys can give me when pulling this motor? I've heard from reading that it is easiest to drop the motor from underneath. I plan on pulling it from up top. Also what are the plugs I need for the mazworx wiring harness?

Thanks,

Andrew

Tools you will need,

Full metric socket and wrench set either 3/8 or 1/2 drive.
(Remember its a Nissan so 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 17mm, and 18mm. Is what they love to use the most) :)
1/2-3/8 Adapter
3/8 & 1/2 Drive
Breaker Bar for those pesky trans bolts
Needle Nose or some pliers for electrical plugs that need disconnected

The way I did mine was A buddy and me when out and started at the rear, disconnecting the drive shaft, dropped the trans mount to be able to angle the motor-trans to gain access to the trans bolts better. Cut the exhaust right above the flange as to better clear the firewall. Disconnected the ecu side of the harness and pulled it back through the engine bay and then fully removed it from the engine as to keep the plugs from getting damaged. Put the straps under the exhaust manifolds and lifted it out of there. It took around 4 1/2 hrs to get done but that was in +98 degree summer heat.

The trans bolts are beast. I pulled my first motor with a couple friends, but I paid a guy $50 bucks to pull my second motor, he had an electric impact etc and dropped it from the bottom, I helped him a little as far as getting the ecu and wiring out (as he would have normally cut it) etc.

Tips....
Take a friend/s
Start early. (I was there before the door opened and got in line) I need the extra time ause there is always something that sucks!
Make sure you take a chain and D Bolts to hook up to the engine to pull it out - Sucks without these.
Don't take every tool you have, just a pain to lug them around. Take what you need
Make sure you take a hack saw.... sometimes it's needed
wire cutters are good too. Before you start pulling things, take 10 mins to check over what you need to do.

Above all good luck and welcome to the world of VH!!!

Thanks for the great tips guys. Hopefully everything goes well. I currently drive a 94 Q45, So my friend and I will be jacking up the car and look at what needs to be done. The picknpull in my area doesn't allow power tools but hopefully we can sneak an impact gun in to make things easier hehe :chuckle: .

Wow, I like the idea of pulling out the front! Got a '95 and wasn't looking forward to jacking the car 3 feet in the air like the book says. I will enjoy taking my time doing it at home because I want the diff, axles and brakes.
