I took off the front cover to find some of those guides metal backed and others with plastic. Maybe I didn't read the chain guides FAQ's enough and don't know all about it. Please tell me which of those guides should be metal backed and which should I replace so I can sleep well and not worry about them breaking. The car that engine was took from was 93 year.

Here the picture I took a moment ago.

Engine looks like it was abused from lack of frequent oil changes, probably not worth replacing chain guides and installing into your car.

Probably, but I know that there are no more than 20 of those engines (and most are installed in cars) in my country so I don't have much of an option. It'll take some time to have my replacement engines come from Japan so will have to live with what I got for a while. I can spend some dollars on parts but need to know which one fails mostly.

THey should all be metal backed. Those main two definitely need to be replaced though. I believe the guide kit is like 350-360 or something in that price range.

The oil chain appears STRETCHED from photo [backpressure on pump from bad oil].

When we replace chain guides we always replace the oil chain and its guide. [T3 has replaced 100+ chain guides in 15 years in business!].

Careful in reassembly since it is difficult to get the correct front pulley torque since the common failure is low torque letting oil chain SLIP and spin [no locking pin just friction from 200 + ft/lbs on front nut].

The oil pump chain is really loose. Deffo needs replacement.

What do you guys think about ebay chain kits ? They're around 250 USD.

I'm still waiting for a quote from a Infiniti dealer in my country and other from Nismoshop.

I've got one of the Ebay kits. Was pretty good. Everything fit fine and appeared to be of reasonable quality.

Try googling the part numbers as there is an inexpensive kit out there tha seems to have the correct parts.

Also, in th eUS,

http://www.infinitipartsusa.com

is king of OEM parts and service.

I've had it running for a short period of time. Didn't notice any strange noises from the front of the engine.

Everything appeared to be of reasonable quality and fit fine.

fr the sdake of $US2000, I might just wait on a reply from infinity parts. I fthey dont get back to me, I'll get one of these kits.

So it pretty much replaces everything related to the chains and guides themselves?

No, they don't come with the longer bolts, I just machined down the guides to suit the old bolts. No piccies sorry, it's all together in the engine.
