I posted up a WTB on Craigslist for a Q45 engine and just had a guy email me tonight who lives an hour away and said he has a complete Q45 engine that had low oil pressure.
Story goes like this: He has an early model Q45 that threw a rod in the original engine. He bought this engine as low mile replacement with a warranty, but by the time he got it put in the warranty had expired and had low oil pressure from the moment they started it up. He pulled it out and put another replacement in, so this one is up for sale. He already tried replacing the oil pump and the low pressure is still present. He is willing to let it go for $200!
I was concerned with oil starvation on other parts of the engine (mainly the heads) but he said he already pulled the heads and there is no damage. I talked to a friend's dad tonight who is an auto mechanic and he mentioned low oil pressure if often just caused by worn bearings in the crank and rods and would likely be a cheap (few hundred $$$) fix.
Without seeing the engine for yourself, would you take it or pass?
