I did a comparison on the rods and pistons of the two.

And let me thank you for being the first to post that with pictures.

One question I had was a comparison between the big end rod area.

There are pics of the big end. The rod caps are the same and even interchangable. The VH45 has thicker base where the radius of the big end meets the stem, along with the stem being just over 2mm thicker.

So the bearings are the same?

Yes, the bearings are the same. I took the bearings off the original rods and inserted them onto the VH45 rods so that I could install the VH45 rods and pistons into the VK45 motor. The crank turned smoothly and the pistons cleared the crank.
