Hi guys, time for another question.
I have just finished rebuilding the VH45 in my G50 and got it all together and in the car running. Now initially the engine was a little tappy with the lifters (ended up using SR20 hyrdraulic lifters) and this soon went away. Although there was still a little noise. We went past the engine machine shop to see if he had any ideas. He said you best stop driving the car (had only done about 20km's at this point) and it sounds like the VCT could be causing an issue as he has seen this sort of problem before, maybe a spring was damaged inside.
Now dont forget, this motor had mauled a bigend bearing. The motor has been completely rebuilt.
Today we took the rocker cover off the driver side (well RHD japanese model mind you) because this was where the noise was comming from. We could not see anything obvious so we pulled the camshaft and VCT off to investigate further.Upon opening the VCT unit the only obvious sign was some copper in there from the bearing which got ground up by the motor.
Now really the question i have was, is this an issue anyone else has had, with noise around the VCT area?, or even on the VCT unit its self. I was quoted around $700AUD for another ONE and no way im spending that much on a part when it may not even be the cause.
Any one have one i could buy?
any one have some ideas?
cheers, shane
