If you are worried about under frame room why not put the turbo in the trunk along with air filter, then just one pressurized pipe to MAF.......if you fin the pipe at various locations along length you don't need an intercooler............just trunk air inlet vents [rear facing to avoid water].

A flipper valve could be used between the oem air box and acoustic plumbing to achieve oem low restriction at cruise.......closes via vacuum.

He does, but it is not a daily driver, and he doesn't post here with operational updates. There is a guy in Australia with an not Vortex type supercharger, but he had problems when I corresponded with him last year. Then there are those guys up in Long Island who, like the guys in TX, are in the ether and are not posters nor documenters. One guy in Japan also claimed to have a VH45DETT, but he too evaporated.

It's going to take someone with some real money and a good shop to build it right for street longevity. It is not a strap-it-on type of deal. One needs only peruse the difference between a VG30DE and a VG30DETT to understand some of the engineering stresses that are different.

For a good model, examine the Porsche V8 turbo in the Cayenne. Another closed deck block design like the VH45DE.

And where would I put my Loius Vuitton luggage?

Imaginative, but I think John Dixon's 5L rebuild with dry sump might be the best way to go.

I doubt I'll every go as low as One Ton and if the pipe gets smashed, cut it out and replace it.

I've been watching for parts and figuring out what I want for about a year now. I have it pretty much figured out. I have an external oil pump already. I just need to pacify my wife with some furniture or something so I can blow some money on the Q .

I'd probably remote mount a Holset HY-35 off a cummins 5.9L auto diesel truck. It's cheap, is good to a bit over 500hp at the flywheel, has a small hot side, and is relatively compact with built in wastegate. I'd run an oval pipe under the car to the MAF. Oval pipe would be needed under the crossmember too. If boost were increased to a level beyond the capability of the stock injectors, I'd add a methanol injection kit ($400 will get a nice setup). It'd cool the air and add fuel at the same time while also being compact. If I could make a safe tank to hold the stuff, I'd probably use ethanol instead since it's cheaper, not corrosive, and is readily available in E85 form. Could be fun. Maybe I'll get to see how much a stock 140K mile trans can hold. I still need to do the 350z track series brake rotors and get 2 new injectors for my Q before that happens. I have too many car projects ahead of it.

I've checked into using turbos from diesel trucks but they won't work for this application. They are designed to boost at very low RPM's and you'd be in full boost under 2K RPM. The Cummins Diesels redline at about 3500 RPM and get boost down in the 1000-1500RPM range. Unless you wanted to be driving around at parial-full boost all the time this option won't work.

Regarding methanol injection, I was surprised to learn from the guys at STS (Squires Turbo Systems) that most of their customers that have methanol injection use window washer fluid and pump it right from the washer tank.

Here is a kit on E-Bay for $425 "buy it now" that comes with the turbo, wastegate, and blowoff valve that is about the right specs. It comes with springs to get boost down to 6.8 psi which might be ok. I was planning on running about 5 psi but 6.8 might be ok. If you go to high tho you open up a whole new can of worms in regards to tuning. If you keep it down to a moderate level you should be able to get by with minimal other mods and tuning.

diesels do spool up at lower rpm, but that HY-35 turbo was on a 5.9L engine. Boost is also very dependant on load. I would venture to guess that even if the Q were cruising at 1/3 throttle, even at 3000rpm, there would be no boost. Windshield washer fluid is good for the injection kits. If you're going to be using it as a supplementary fuel system (a large jet), then it can get expensive and the washer fluid reservoir isn't very big. Yes, the Q isn't a race car, but it'd be nice to have some balls in the old family sedan.

Not looking for a race car but there are plenty of luxury beemers and benzes out there that are way souped up. Nothing wrong with making a good thing better and more horsepower is ALWAYS better (and I won't be convinced otherwise! )

Oh, and I'm dream daily about hearing that turbo spool up when I nail the throttle on my Q.

And the low-end torque, which is where the Q needs it.

Supercharger would be cool too but I really like the turbo spool up and a turbo seems much easier for me to accomplish myself for much less money. I had my brothers turbo diesel Dodge truck for a couple days and it was cool hearing that turbo. hehe. Friend of mine also has a Porsche 930 Turbo that is heavily "messaged" and I love the sound of the turbo. Music to my ears.

Something like this, this has the STS kit on it. It's a twin turbo but you'll get the idea. AH YA BABY!

I would be interested in seeing someone come up with a viable way to run turbos without deleting any exisitng power accessories, and while still allowing the car to be driven safely when lowered (cuz honestly, how many people who would turbocharge their Qs wouldn't have already lowered it also?). A serpentine setup is one "tricky" way to gain a lot of plumbing room, but I so doubt anyone out there has considered taking such a step on the Q. My main fear is just seeing a shanked together system that looks like ***, performs like ***, and inevitably destroys a couple people's cars...like ***. That would be kinda uncool....

It sounds like you have fuel or tuning issues to work out. Or just run a bigger pulley. You shouldn't be destroying engines just because the super is strong......

Blow one engine... possibly a fluke. Blow two engines... something may be amiss

I've always liked this blown VH45:http://nissanv8.com/viewtopic.php?t=39
