I have a ? about the transmissions they say that the 300zx transmission can be mated to a vh45 I have both of them in front of me but for the life of me I cant figure this out my bellhousing comes of the vh easily but on the vg you can see the internals when trying to take off the bellhousing but heres the thing i know that people have used the q45 transmission in the z32 swap can anybody give me blueprint for the custom driveshaft thats needed or can anyone tell me howto use the vg transmission to keep from making a custom driveshaft

Adapter plate is the keyword.

Jerry, give me a e-mail, I will give you my # and can walk you through [email protected]

In short- to use Z32 trans, you need an adapter plate, or to cut off mounting surface of Q trans, and Z trans, and put Q's on the Z. Driveshaft cold be reused, a single shaft is preferable to the usual split shaft design.

To use the Q's automatic, has not been done in Z32 to my knowledge. Obstacles are the wiring for the ATX computer, Now thats a PITA, but not impossible, just A LOT more work, and FSM fun Driveshaft is not hard. Take the 2 shafts, and they will use the Q's input shaft for the trans, and the Z's tailshaft to mount to the diff, and make a shaft between. I usually pay 200 or so depending on what is intailed, and balancing. My last one was 125, but was Domestic parts.

If your Z is auto, then you just need to swap bellhousings.

To pull apart the Z's trans is easy, but you have to follow and order, Nick, and I can walk you through it easily, and there are a few posts here on how to, but as Nick will say, we found a much esier way, without taking it all apart. The gears and all, can stay in the rear case, and just the front pulls off. FYI--YOU CANNOT SWAP THE VH BELLHOUSING TO THE VG TRANS UNLESS BOTH ARE AUTOMATIC. Let me know what you have q's on, and I'd be glad to help. If over in Austin, swing by.Good Luck with the build, Craig.

A guy here in Aus did it. Had a shop do it and he's a knob and hence not worth talking to... Hooked a shift at will kit up to it as well. Got 180rwkw out of a stock VH45 + auto, not bad.

dont quote me on this, but since your ride is already auto- you should just need to connect the wires that we did not that go to the trans computer to your z's wiring to it's computer. Look up Nick's wiring post on Z's. should have all the info needed. Granted it may say, not used, for us, but if you go through the fsm and figure out their function, odds are both systems share the same basic setup.

The gearbox? Bit of a slusher, but he's a old guy (nearly as old as Nick ) so he doesn't mind.

I thought the gearbox's where the same except for the ratio's.

I'm more curiuos about how it drives, with an automatic. I plan to make this J30-a J45, and plan to go stick- for fun, but know that Auto would be so much simpler in the fabbing stage, more fun in wiring, but not sure if it will be worth the build if left auto.

Any idea was it really quick, spin tires between shifts, ...?

My Q with the quick shift kit and built internals is really nice. Stock slushbox is miserable for spirited driving, but this thing shifts really quick and its really nice... Very nice upshifts, almost as fast as a tiptronic or whatever they call the automatically shifted manual transmissions...

In all honesty, for road racing I would prefer a 5 speed auto with real quick shifts especially in my Q... Less time with your hand on the gear shifter is better!
