I am sure you can tell from my user name I love V8's. As the nissan scene is pretty new to me what would it require for me to drop a pretty much stock VH45 into a G? Nothing more than a few simple mods like exhaust and intake, for a little

This could be one of my crazy ideas. I did find this somewhere else on the site but there really weren't many details on the install itself, more motor talk than the details I want.

I used to like V8's when I was in high school. My first car was a V8.a 1958 Ford with the Police intercepter engine. I think it was a 352 cu inch?I can't quite remember. But what i do remember was that my father told me not to buy it. I didn't listen. Turned out to be the biggest piece of $hit I ever owned and helped turn me off American vehicles. What did I learn? 1- I should have listened to my father.2- As the wise Ben Stern said to little Howard when he was seven years old."Shut up sit down, don't be stupid you moron".

The VH45DE is the same as the VK45, they're used in the Q for sure and maybe the M? It's Nissan-Infiniti's V-8.

Other than that thread in the engine specific forum, which I assume is the one you're referring to, I have not heard of anyone doing this.

I've heard of it being done in 350Z's, but usually it's a random race team doing it with sponsers to make a track/drag/ or drift car. I've also thought about it as an alternative to forced induction to the VQ35. My plan was to go with the VK56DE motor though! Go big or go home baby haha It's out of the Titan, Armada, QX56 and Pathfinder. The VK56DE has more torque and hp than the VH45DE (it's 90's technology) whereas the VK blocks, like the VK56DE and the VK45DE are newer and more advanced over all and actually designed from the G's motor, the VQ35(ie: titanium valves and aluminum lifters). If you do want to go with the smaller of the modern V8's, go with the VK45DE. It actually creates the most horsepower of them all, It's more of a hp designed motor as opposed to torque, and faster/higher revving and rpm range as well. I can't remember all of the exact numbers off the top of my head, but there's a general layout of the motors. The VK45DE comes in the Infiniti Q45, FX45, M45 and Nissan Fuga (yes Fuga, lol).

Well, there's a little info for ya Now go research and do a V8 swap and let us know how it goes haha! You'd be one of the first, if not the first G's I've heard of it being done in. And that would be Hawt!!! and I would to the Fabrication skillz of you or whoever you had do it!!!

......Now you've got me thinking if this had ever been done

So I did some more research!

Here's what I came across....and they also chose the VK45DE motor as what I mentioned before as being the more probable and best of the swaps. Here's a link from superstreet (sorry, not sure if they are a competing forum/site). But it's got some good info...check it out

Awesome! Well I was looking at pumping up the 3.5 and it just seems ridiculously expensive for the amount of power I would be getting. To be completely honest the first motor to pop into my head was an LS1 . Course I know that is like a slap in the face for any nissan/infiniti purist. So I began to research infiniti V8's. But the power I could yeild from that motor with the amount I put into the 3.5 could be outrageous and be a little more reliable/not turboed with good power. I think though I would run into some tuning with the suspension because of extra weight. Still would be able to obtain good balance for cornering though.

The VK45DE is only about 50lbs more I believe.....that can be off set easily with a carbon fiber hood, relocate the battery to the trunk and even some suspension tuning if need be. If I recall it makes 340hp, so that's pretty decent too. Of course, getting ahold of a VQ37 (motor from new G37) could be an option as well, as it has 330hp. ....but ya, something to think about, let us know how it goes!

For information about cross breed swaps, including LSx's, check out the Hybrids sub-forum here on NICO. As for putting a VH45DE into a G35, there's going to be very little information out there as very few people have gone this route. Given the abundance of Forced Induction options for the VQ.

Good luck and welcome to NICO.

An LS would take the fun out of it though I think. Too easy to run out and find an S-10, and place a stout LS motor in cheaply and run some low numbers.

What really worries me about the 3.5 is that it seems most pay tons of money for the power, but I also wonder if that has to do with most passing their engines off to shops to do all the work?

The G35 definitely isn't the car to swap engines with...I've seen some 350Z's with Titian V8's and it required a lot of work ($) to do.

If you really want more power, FI is the way to go...they're good for up to 400rwhp, any more and you have to buff up the drivetrain.
