So I've been away for a while as the whole project was on hold. Anway I picked up a new motor so it full speed ahead to get it all together. Now the problem I have is the motor I had was a series 1 and the one I've just picked up is a series 2. So far the differences I've found are in the injector plugs, the TB is different and has a stepper motor, the cam sensor is different with a different plug.
I assume the timing chain guides will be OK (but have steel ones anyway) and it will use bolts for the end caps (rather than studs) but what else is different?

Also are the cam sensors interchangable between series?

Looks like you got a TCS engine... you'll want to swap out the TCS TB (with the stepper motor) with the non-TCS version that you got, no big deal as the TPS and all the other bits are the same. I assume you already have some sort of intake pipe fabricated for the other TB so you can reuse that.

The injector plugs are different, the older ones have the square style with the locking pins on the side, and the newer ones have the round ones with the tab.

The cam sensor actually works the same, you just will have to splice in the different connector into yours. The cam sensors are not interchangeable old vs new as they changed the way they mount into the head.

Ah I thought you were going to say that! I have modified the cam sensor with the new sensor disc so hopefully I can change that into the other sensor. Anyone know if they are the same internally????
One good thing is the plug placement is better for routing the wiring!

Intake etc is all completely custom so not really an issue.
I have injectors from the other motor so will use those.

What is a TCS engine?

TCS = Traction Control System. The stepper motor there operates a butterfly, so when the computer detected slip it would cut off air to the engine..

I would imagine they are the same internally, they work the same just different physical appearance.

Ah right. I hadn't looked too hard at it yet but it did appear it was a second butterfly so had me wondering. I'll look at it further tonight but I had hoped to use the TB on it as it bends in the right direction for the way the intercooler is mounted. Maybe I can ripp the second butterfly out and seal up the holes? Will see what I can do and let everyone know.

I really wouldn't think if you just left it in place it would hurt too much? but that little extra aluminum elbow sure is nice.

You can leave the whole assembly in place and it won't matter. Mine is the TCS intake and the only thing I had to do was delete the fault code from the factory ECU. Unless you have the TCS connected, the butterfly stays fully open
