I'm looking for a rod and piston from the VH45 motor. I'm trying to compare it directly to the VK45 parts. Does anyone have some that they no longer use/need?

Why not just look in the specifications section of the Factory Service Manuals that each motor came out of?

Maybe also posting a WTB ad in the WTB Section would help you find someone with a single rod/piston to sell.

Yeh... use the FSM to get the various critical dimensions.

If you're wanting to compare size and strength, why not just measure& photograph the VK internals and post up on Nico for everybody's benefit? I'll reciprocate and provide measurements and photos of the VH rods & pistons so we can compare them.

The dimensions according to the FSM are identical, letter for letter. What I'm trying to determine is the physical outside such as the beam thickness and rod bolt clearance. I kinda have a feeling that the VH rods are stronger/thicker than the VK rods. We know for sure that the stock VH internals can handle a tremendous amount of power. And yes, I do plan to do a writeup with side by side comparison of the rods in the same way I did the comparison with the Brembo Gran Turismo, factory stock and factory replacement drilled rotors.

Well I figured you were trying to establish if the VH rods were thicker and stronger, that's why I said it in my post, and why I suggested a quick and easy means of establishing this.

Measure them & take photos with the measuring equipment on various parts of the rods, and I can take photos the same as yours so you have side by side comparisons to go by.

That way you don't have to buy any!

if you do a search on here, last year I took a bunch of pictures and measured/photographed a stock VH45 rod and piston

I'd pay particular attention to the rings even if everything else looks identical.

Well either way, I'm gonna get a set of the VH45 rods and pistons. I am getting a VK45 to build up for my Q45, and may get a complete VH45 and tear it down to do a side by side comparison, tho that really depends on how much the shipping for the VH is. It's nice to have people on the forums with one motor and another with the other parts, but I'm really keen on solving all the myths surrounding the VK45. One thing I have noticed according to the 1997 FSM and the 2003 FSM is that the VK do not have the bridge for the main bearings.
