i know stroker cranks are available as i have put up a post before to see if anyone was interested

i was just wondering if anyone had looked at the cheaper alternative?

offset grinding the journals to suit sr20 conrods which can be had for next to nothing ($50 for 8 most likely)

4 mm grind increase stroke by 2 mm ...

the sr20 conrod is nearly 11 mm shorter though

i havent compared piston compression heights but the piston pin hole diameters are the same so you would think you could use standard vh45 pistons ... which i would assume would give LOWER compression ... unless the standard vh45 pistons are around 32 + 11 - 2 mm compression height (which i doubt)

would be amusing if you ended up with a 4.6 litre with 8.0:1 rough static compression

30psi here we come

for the price of an offset grind

(of course this all goes out the window if the conrod width isnt the same)

would be worth looking at if you ever spin a bigend bearing and HAD to grind the crank anyway

I really liked this post but no one ever replied to it.

I would like some other members opinions on this idea, hence why I've dug it out.

Basically, what does everyone else think of this idea, including the original poster?

Decreasing journal area while increasing power is not a wise combination.

I'm not going to pretend I have the slightest idea about connecting rod sizes and all of that but I'm interested in the idea of an 8:1 comp ratio and 30 PSI! Get this thread going engine guru's. Come to think of it I think there are a few guys toying with this stuff in the VH forum I think.

Not a word of that post made any sense to me.

They've all come to the conclusion that the quench height is too low by lowering the stock pistons in the cyl's to lower compression. I don't know what quench is but it sounds fun.

Thats what concerns me is the quench height.. really the only way to decompress is to use dished pistons... What would be the difference in quench height with that setup??

We have the compression height info in the VH forum somewhere. We're thinking the best way to do it is to use VQ30DET pistons and Z22E rods.
