you just need the fsm for the Z32 and the fsm for the Q and then you'll have to make ad adapter harness or cut and splice or repin or whatever works for your application, I recomend you just lay out the Q harness and get it laid out as best you can then looking at the diagram find trace the open ends of the harenss to find out what they need to go to, it's likely only a dozen or so wires that you need to re route

Owning both a Q45 and a Z32, I have to say this idea intrigues me and I shall be subscribing to your newsletter. However, I think this is pure madness

Pure, unadulterated madness. I'd really like to see how this turns out, especially taking into account the higher weight and relatively small horsepower gain that you get with a VH45. I was looking under the hood of my Q today, and remarked on just how clean the engine bay was in layout and design compared to that of the Z. But the idea of slapping that engine in? Wow.

OP, try posting in the VH/VK section. Those guys will definitely be able to help you out a lot.

You and I have the exact same powertrain, lol (your Q is a '94 right?).

Well i figured the wiring out now, i was reading the write up wrong and was looking in the wrong locations. In all actuality, the VH45 is the same weight if not lighter than a VG, because the VG is a cast irbon block as where the VH45 is an aluminum. It is so much cleaner looking in the engine bay the the VG and the increase from an VG n/a to a VH n/a isnt minium, 200whp from a VG as where you can achieve 300whp with just bolt ons. And i did this swap for less than 2500 dollars, which yould barely do a half a** TT swap. My next step is to build the next motor that i have to handle boost and supercharge it. The biggest thing about this motor is the torque it has at such low RPM, it honestly puts the VG to shame, this si the motor that should of been offered in the Z orginally.

EDIT: also imagine the motor with the Z32 transmission :) yea i know morning wood right :P ahaha

You guys are making this seem better then it is... Yeah, you make a lot more power in NA form but there's no room in the bay for forced induction, the VH has no aftermarket following, you destroy the resale value of your car and most of the time you lose creature comforts like A/C. It's cool to say my car has a V8 and it'll roast the tires through second gear, but a lightly modded TT will rape it.

It's hardly an ideal transmission. With my stock 4.08 rear, 1st gear is useless and I can't reach 60 in 2nd.

what aftermarket following are you referring to. Yea destroy the resale value, thats if you are going to sell it, A/C is possible, and so is PS. a lightly modded stock TT? or are you talker about upgraded turbos and injectors. Stock Turbos mak ou ~370whp as well as the injectors. The VH runs the same injectors thus has the same max hp range as a Stock TT. And in order for me to be a TT i woul dhave to do a conversion which is what? 3k+ just for a basic one, then the VG is a lot more pain in the a** to work on, as well as expensive. The VH is relaively simple and very clean looking. So with my old bolt ons from my n/a with a couple for the VH im believe ill be over 300whp. and torgue a long with it. no spooling, no turbo lag, straight low end torque :)

if money is the issue you sell the n/a for $3k and add int he $2500 you spent on the conversions and you go buy a TT, and for the record the VH is the one Nissan engine I like less than the VG30DETT, both are over engineered and both are big and ugly, but there is no replacement for displacement, a turbo 4.5 has more potneial thatn a turbo 3.0, about 1.5 times as much ;)

the IRL version fo the VH41 made like 600 hp n/a so yes they have potential, what trans are you going to run? the biggest issue si that the VH never came with a manual trans, a bud of mine is outting one in an S13 but he's using a GM W/C T5, you can buy a plate to runt he Nissan trans but it's kinda spendy

all Z cars came fomr the factory with a 6 cylinder, form 1970 through today so to me a V8 is cheating ;) althouth nissan did build a few v8 240z's back in the 70's with the old president pushrod v8, now thats an odd bird

I'm not as mechanically inclined as most people here seem to be, but when I did briefly entertain the idea of my Q's motor in the Z, even I realized it was madness for a lot of the reasons given above. There really isn't any aftermarket support, and the VH45 - at least in my '94 Q - does kick some serious a** at the top end of the speedo, but down in those places where the Z thrives it just doesn't leap to life. I know much of this is right down to the transmission, but there's only so far you can go before your engine's natural RPM's are going to inhibit you.

Granted, I would _love_ to drive a converted Z. I'd be thrilled to see how well this worked out, but I'm admittedly more inclined to wonder about the potential of the 454 swap some even crazier person is trying to pull off. Hell, if the engine in my Q crapped out, I'd even entertain the idea of replacing that with a 454 if possible. Something maintainable and readily available with more aftermarket parts than any Nissan motor? Yes, please.

The aftermarket following that the VH45 has (hint: it has none). About the only thing you can get are cam regrinds and pistons. Other then that, you're completely on your own. And yeah, the VH has much more potential, but that potential can only be reached with lots of work and custom parts.

What bolt-ons from your NA? I can't think of a single thing off the top of my head. The only thing you could use would be an exhaust, and that's if you cut and weld the VH header to match the VG exhaust location.

I am running the 300zx 5speed Z32 transmission. I used the mazworks adapter plate. And as far as upgrades, i have the one piece driveshaft, test pipes, greddy exhaust, dual electric fan, lightweight Z32 flywheel with a 6 puck clutch. I will also be picking up an ECU upgrade as well as an Intake.. So bolt on wise, im pretty good except no pulley or headers.

As far as extra work and custom parts, thats what makes it worth while :) my sweat, blood, tears, and curse words are in this car. And for 4-5k you can barley find a good TT. the VH is easier to work on and isnt as complex as the VG. And the VH can be bored out to make a 5.0L as where the VG is only limited to 3.2L.

Yeah, that's true. I have the Mazworx kit as well, it's worked out great for me. Only thing that sucked was the price :(. Damn thing was almost as much as the motor itself lol. What's your cooling setup look like? I have a massive custom radiator with a 17inch pusher and I still have cooling issues.
