G'day folks,

Doing my first engine overhaul at the moment on my '91 VH45. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good quality complete gasket kit for this beast, and where to get a fair priced one? I don't want to contact Infiniti just yet.

Cheers.

Try STA (Segedins Truck & Auto parts) in Auckland, New Zealand. They sold me mine at a very reasonable price.

Hey Mettler,

Thanks for the input. I called Sottsdale Infiniti for $h!t$ and grins and was quoted about $US390.

Just emailed Segedin Truck and Auto to see what they can do them for.

I doubt that $390 was even a complete gasket set from Infiniti. I had the parts guy look up a set of the lower intake runner gaskets and they were over $100 each!!!

The gasket set I used was from JIS engines. I was a little worried about the quality just due to the price (I bought the gasket set from a guy who had a bunch of parts lying around) but they seem to be holding together just fine. It was a very complete kit, too.

tmorgan4,I think you're right. The guy at Infiniti was in a bit of a hurry to get me off the phone. Nothing beats good customer service, eh! I checked the JIS site out, they seem like the business. I will call them tomorrow for a quote.

I've used JIS and CNS before and both are of the same quality and haven't had problems out of either so far.

I've heard nightmares about the Eristic brand gasket sets... head gaskets blowing in hundreds of miles, seals not sealing, etc... I have no perosnal experience though, only what I've heard.

There are Ajusa gaskets available on Ebay for the VH motor as well. There are a few dollars more than the Eristic stuff, but I've heard good things about them. Personally, I purchased an Ajusa set off of Ebay and I'm satisfied with the initial quality. Of course, my engine isn't running yet, so I can't make any real judgements.

I will never run anything besides OEM head gaskets or high quality aftermarket head gaskets from a known good manufacturer. Since no upgraded aftermarket gaskets exist that I know of, I'd resolve myself to OEM use.

The problem is when you add the cost of two OEM head gaskets and that Ajusa overhaul set, you're close to the cost of the complete OEM set. Combine that with the fact that none of the Ebay sets include F&R main seals, and the price gap narrows even more.

I used the Ajusa set because I didn't pull the heads and this motor is an interim solution until I get my built motor finished. I will be buying an OEM gasket set for that motor.

Thanks for the input.Anlasak, I emailed CNS today and was told they have no gasket kits for the VH45. Maybe they discontinued them.

I looked at NAPA Online and they have them... http://www.napaonline.com/mast...tId=3It looks like it will total over $400.

I called STA and they offer the kit at $NZ449 +GST.

I may end up going with the $395 for the set which the people who have been doing the machining work for me can get them for.

back from the dead...since im in the market for a headgasket set for my block im strongly considering the erstic set...when i rebuilt my rb20 i used a similar gasket set off ebay and was amazed to see that all of the seals were the same brand as the oem nissan seals and the gaskets to be of good quality.only issue i have had is with the valve stem seals but i feel that it may have been the machine shops fault as a friend is having similar oil problems due to stem seals as i am (i have one known bad seal and possibly another as well).I think it comes down to assembly and prep, if the prep work is done right then it will seal fine.

In the 2000 NISMO catalogue, there's an entry for headgaskets that suit VH41DE, and the only data with it is dia. 96mm, and t = 0.6mm.

Take from that what you will, but it suggests to me these headgaskets suit a 96mm bore high compression NA VH, not unlike the VRH50ADE.

I just noticed this gasket kit from CNS, on eBay...

Granted it is not a complete engine gasket kit, do you think it would still be worth buying it and sourcing the remaining gaskets separately?

i just fitted the cns gasket set to my engine and its a good kit, comes with all the seals you need except its missing 2 injector seal sets (has enough for 6 but not 8...).other than that gaskets were of good quality and has stuff i didnt even think it would have (cas oring and vtc seals [AFTER I PUT THE FRONT COVER ON I FIGURED OUT WHAT THEY WERE!!!1!11]).
