for refresher, car has 78k, just bought 2 weeks ago, no service history since 50k.replaced all 4 drive belts today w/OEM [old were OEM, w/moderate cracking]. while in there, with the fan off and the wp pulley off, I felt the wp. turning felt smooth. axial end play was apparent but did not seem excessive [subjective, since i don't see a spec in the FSM]. but, what i didn't expect was lateral or more specifically, up and down play. there was no evidence of leakage around the packing. no noises apparent from the forward rotating appendages. is this (rocking) a cause for concern? I think the axial play is OK. Up and down isn't. The belt needs to be straight.
