Anyone have a pic of where the Knock Sensors are located on the JDM VH41? The ECM keeps throwing up Code 34 so need to check for continuity etc but not sure where exactly to look.

you can kind of see them hiding there underneath the coolant hoses.Mine were all melted, apparently a common issue with these early bosch sensors.

Good luck getting to them, you have to pull in order: upper manifold, lower manifold (keeping the fuel rail connected makes it easier), then the coolant y pipe you see above.

If your sensors are melted it generally means that your engine has been overheated pretty bad at some point.

Study the specification of KS you will see operation above 250F results in case cracking , melting requires serious temperatures which shows the aluminum alloy may be structurally damaged.

Every engine with both melted KS I've seen has been worthless inside impossible with a loss of coolant. When someone runs it until it locks up and seizes.

The KS are an early warning sensor of owner abuse [when we find them with cracked cases.

This is my spare (non running---yet) engine. Perhaps I should clarify, the cases aren't so melted as they are aged. Cracking might be a better way to describe the failure of the KS casing.

I am aware this could possibly mean the engine was overheated in the past, however, other signs of such damage are nil. This particular engine is going to be torn down for spares and I'm going to inspect the heads and block thoroughly before I decide what to do with them.

I have another running engine in a half cut that is alot younger.

Does anyone have a working set they would be interested in selling? Mine aren't melted but there is continuity all the way so they are obviously dodgy.

Are they interchangableble from another model Nissan?

They are the same as Z32 knock sensors.

I melted the knock sensors on my first VH41DE, it was pretty cooked
