VH41 chunks from oil pan - BOOM

To those who don't know, my VH41 in my 2000 Q45 blew a hole last week. Totally FUBAR. Pulled it last week, here's the thread detailing my efforts:

Any theories as to what may have caused all that carnage?

None. 4k oil changes since I bought it at 72k with 0w30 Mobil 1. Motor pulled hard until the end, quite literally at high rpm.

I'd be interested to see your oil pump filter screen. No gunking of the engine?

Any excess gasoline in the crankcase oil?

No gunk in engine, very clean. I'm really at a loss here...fortunately it doesn't matter as I am pressing forward as soon as I get the needed parts ordered tomorrow.

Nope - not that I could see at all. The oil was in great shape, did a change 600 mi ago. Plenty of it too, I lost a bit on the highway and through the holes, but it still drained a few qts.

Yeah, you should smell it if it is due to injector O ring failure. Ring failure shouldn't cause the failure you had. Neither should bearing failure.
