I'm assuming it's a big NO, but has anyone confirmed any parts that are or aren't interchangeable between VH and VKs? Heads/oil pan/crank pulley/headers....anything??? I never realized how similar they are until I saw some pictures of a VK torn apart. Intake manifold flanges look slightly different but close!

Someone send me some VK parts and I'll attack them with the verniers!

If I had some VK parts...I'd send them your way!

After spending a little time researching VKs I'm getting tempted to go that route. So many more parts are available and it would be nice being able to walk into the Nissan dealer and order a harness or some bolts (and not be told the parts I need are discontinued!!). I shouldn't even think about it...but I am. So far I haven't found much info on bolting a VK to the 300zx 5-speed, though.

This actually all started when ATI told me they had a drawing of a damper hub for a VK. I was hoping it might work, but after taking measurements and calling back the crank snout on the VH is quite a bit bigger than a VK. :frown:

The VH was built with brute force in an era [1987] before super computers were used in every component of engine design. 10-12 years later lots of components were deemed overdesigned and too heavy for application.

Not sure which [with 100k] when equally overheated or abused would survive best. Watch out for VK rings and bearings as everything is downsized.........not a gram extra anywhere.

That makes a lot of sense....I know you may not agree with us tearing apart perfectly balanced engines to replace components but I do always appreciate what you have to say!

I'm hoping to soon prove that we don't need to alter the bottom-end to make decent power. I have confidence in the VH rods, crank, and pistons supporting my power goals (700 - 900 HP, carefully tuned on E85), but I'm not entirely sure about the cylinder sleeves and OEM head gasket.

I looked at the measurement on the FSM and it seemes that the VH45 rod and VK45 rods are interchangable. All of the measurements are the same (for the rods). I like this thread print the spec pages and look up what other measurements are identical between the two motors.
