I just returned from my mechanic and hearingthe sad news of why he no longer works on carburators.

I'm not sure I have a problem yet, butsomeday if this '86.5 PU keep running.

So, anyone have a comment about rebuilds and/oraftermarket replacement carburetors for the VG30i?

I'll reply to my own post as I've just discovered that the 86.5 VG30i has a throttle body fuel injection not a carburetor. Hmmm

This is good news of sorts, though I suspect that rebuilds and replacementsfor a 21 year old vehicle will be difficult in any case.

Comments appreciated.

Thanks for the post.As it turns out the VG301 is not carbuerted but injected.I felt a little silly. I still think it runs a little rich and certainly would like to know how to improve gas mileage.

Relative to diagrams and performance parts etcthis forum is pretty good. There's also a nissan google forumthat has been helpful.

Hope to see you here again.

if the smell is coming from the tail pipe check your entire air injection system, these trucks push air into the exhaust to finish burning the mixture. if something in this system is faulty it will make a rich smell in the pipes. i know this because mine is missing the AIV box, or whatever its called, and it makes it run rich as well. Might also run some injector cleaner through it in case you have a hung injector. The way i checked if my injectors were working properly was take the TB off the motor, unplug the coil, and have someone crank the motor over while you look at the spray pattern and amount. simple common sense will tell you if its dumping gas into the motor this way, it will be very apparent if it is a hung injector. But if you can smell it up in the engine bay you might have a leaky throttle body.Hope this helps
