You'll have to for give me for asking this question. But a friend and I were arguing over which motor is better. The sr20t redtop or the vg30det? Please express your opinions.

It depends on what you're going for. . . Also, by vg30det, I'm assuming that you mean the VG30DETT (from the 300Z). If you're going for power, you're not going to beat the VG w/ the little SR. Power/liter, the SR will be stronger, but who cares about that kind of bragging rights? I'm not saying that the SR is weak. I've seen many of SR motors that could take on your average VG, but if you do the same things to both motors (intake, exhaust, ecu, or even changing out the turbos), and do a comparison, I don't really think it's even going to fair.

However, there are people who out the SR20 into their 300Z. And I'm assuming that you're asking this b/c you've seen a 300Z w/ a SR20 in it. People NOT do this b/c they want more power. It's because they are willing to sacrifice their low-end for better handling through lightrning their car (and better balancing the front heavy 300Z), since the SR is a couple hundred lbs. lighter than the VG.
