Hey guys, right now, all I know about engine codes on the 300ZX is Z31.

I am assuming the VG30E is the non-turbo, and the VG30ET is the turbo. I would also like to know the codes for the 96-97 Pathfinder engines (There is a system to my madness). Are these two years basically the same? And what years from the pathfinder are interchangable with the Z31? Thanks.

And before you guys yell at me, I did look on Z31.com, and on here, to no evail. So I tried to find it on my own, damn it!

The 300zx Z31 chassis is the Datsun/Nissan 300zx from 1983-1985 and had the VG30E and VG30ET turbo motors. At that point the Nissan (Datsun dropped) 300zx came out with the Z32 chassis. The Z32-series had the VG30DE non-turbo and the VG30DETT twin turbo.

The '96-99 Pathfinder had the VG33E (168 hp and 196 lb·ft torque).

I believe the above is correct at least.

I'm going to hit you up with a 350Z wheel question next.

As far as the interchangability the VG33 will bolt up the the Z31 tranny no problem and I'm almost positive the motor mounts are the same but don't quote me.

Perhaps I misread audtatious. But it seems you said the z31 in ended in 85??? no dude I drive an 89 and have an 87 and 88.. The body changed a bit but was still labeled as the z3. They had different tailights and a more powerful vg30e w series motor

WOW! Not even close.

1984-1989 model 300ZXs were Z31s. They were equipped with either VG30E or VG30ET in North America.

1990-1996 model 300ZXs were Z32s. They were equipped with either VG30DE or VG30DETT motors.

Almost no parts from the two motors will interchange.

VG30E motors were used in many Nissan models over the years (300ZX/Maxima/Truck/Pathfinder/etc). The VG33E and VG33ER (supercharged version) were only used in the trucks (Trucks/Pathfinders/Xterras/Quest).

VG = V6 engine30/33 = 3.0/3.3 L displacementD = DOHCE = EFIR = superchargerT = single turboTT = twin turbo

And yes. Z31 = chassis designation, not engine designation.

Hey guys:

From what I've read, the VG30 is basically the same as a VG33.

Since I've blown the VG30 in my P.O.S. Villager, could I swap in a VG33 without a hassle? (I find alot of low milers in the boneyards locally)

How's about the sensors & CPU?

My thanks in advance.

[[frankly, I'd prefer to launch her off a cliff, but I need it for hauling kid/brats & work - but, the next one's gonna be an NX for me!]]

Yes my friend you can use a VG33 in your Z31 without any hassle, only minor difference in some things. If your car is turbo dont use too much boost with oem pistons and rods. Good luck and be well.
