OK I got an 88 Maxima (auto GXE).In time I want to upgrade the performance. I thought I could use a rebuilt on my current engine. While I'm at it I want to throw in some upgrades. By any chance any of ya'll got any hookups on parts, externals, internals...? Any ideas?

I've been modding it little by little. But not much. I got new paint, lights, front end, tint, entertainment, suspension, brakes, 17" wheels, Falken tires, exhaust, filters, denso plugs, optima, and some accessories. But lately I've been trying to power up and invest whats needed. Like my engine. I would like to power it up with ZX parts, and some. Is it possible to hit good grip of HP without turbo or nitro??? My car may old school, plain, and simple. But it is nicely simply setup with that sleeper style status.

Well drop in some info please.

PEACE

well, im no maxima expert, but if the motor is a vg30e single overhead cam, its not quite the zx motor which is a vg30de or vg30dett dual overhead cam, non turbo, turbo respectively.

im not sure of part interchangeability, but maybe a swap is in order. hell, if the motors strong, hit it with a shot. [50-75] the auto transmission may take a crap if you start modding the hell out of it so beware. you would be better off talking to someone with more maxima experience

I do know that Cattman Performance makes a stage 1 and stage 2 cam for the Maxima VG30E, they're for '89 and up VG30E's, but they might work for you. drop them a email and find out.keep in mind they are $550.00. They do not recommend the stage 2 for an A/T maxima, they say its a bit rough on them.

Cattman Technologies doesn't make the cam Jim Wolf technologies does.I've been looking at this question the week and hardly found a thing

Any other info on the subject?

I think he's referring to the Z31's, not Z32 part interchangability. In that case, the motors are almost the same (VG30E and VG30ET), but slightly different - just different enough to keep you from picking up a bunch of Z31 parts. I would go w/ the cam and u can probably install a pathfinder intake manifold - longer runners ot make more torque. Other then that, port and polish or throw on some nitrous (even though u don't seem to want to go that far).

Can somebody give me all the details on getting those heads to flow a bit more.Like the details for using the oversized valves.

it's going to be a waste of money man. don't do all that - just have the head milled a little to up your compression a hair. If you have an aftermarket header, port your exhaust side of the heads to match in size. Pay some decent shop to just do a basic port/polish - no need for a 3 angle valve job or anything exotic like that. While the heads are off, get the cam. If you havn't already advanced ur timing, u could do that too. 240SX throttle body and port ur intake manifold inlet to match. Just a few basic ideas. I would go nitrous and maybe beef up the fuel system to hold a decent shot. 100-150 could be done w/ proper fuel system upgrades. Is there no Maxima board lurking on the net? Maybe try z31.com for more ideas?

There are plenty of Maxima boards but none really get into real engine performance.
