Wouldn't a TT swap have been better and more powerful?

z32? Yea thats what I would have done (if I was crazy and wanted to swap a VG into my 240). But seeing an old motor in an s13 is purdy cool.

VG30ET is a different and badass torque engine swap in a 240. A while ago some 240 owners and myself wanted to do this swap to be different. Nobody really ever got around to doing it lol. Looks badass though.

How heavy are those motors? They're definitely more than plentiful and dirt cheap.

Yeah, it's turbo, though factory t3 for now. I' m still trying to figure out a super short IC setup. I was thinking of using an rb fmic kit maybe? Oh well, they came factory non-intercooled, so in due time.

IIRC, they weigh 40~50 more than a ka24 fully trimmed??? I think just shy of 400lbs? But, they and 3.3 block are cheap around here, and the rotating assembly is similar to the de's. A 500hp limit on a fresh stock vg30et isn't too bad either. These things are durable.

Yes, a dett would be cool, but, I can blow one of these to Hell and go grab another, or go bigger displacement. Plus, I had it all laying around, so I figured why not.

Sorry for double posting, but my phone sucks.
I'm running the 90a t5 trans w/ an auto 240sx driveshaft and mustang shortshifter to relocate the gear lever position. The trans and engine mounts (n/a Z) had to be extended forward an inch, because I'm still running the z x-over pipe. Really easy. Wiring is a joke, because z31 efi is so archaic, but you have to make an ignition and ptu harness. Turbo was relocated, and I hacked the elbow off the ?elbow? And welded a vband on for the downpipe. Oil pan and pickup are front sump from a maxima. PS lines are sohc ka.

Vg30et is probably the hardest. If you aren't a little fab savvy, I would try a villager or quest 3.3 with an n/a z31 flywheel clutch pplate 71c trans, 240sx trans member, z31 n/a engine to isolator mounts, 240 engine crossmemer w/ pucks (possibly vg s12) and z cams w/ z intake or pathy. Pathy Manu might not clear the hood

Very cool.
VG blocks are quite sturdy indeed.
Did the Z31 motors have casting flash like the Z32 ones?
MotoIQ did a nice nice build on a VG-TT a while back and showed how they cleaned up their block.

Certain RB20 and RB25 intercooler kits have the inlet/outlet on the same sides like so:

And that should keep the piping much neater.

So did you make mounts from scratch or was this combination of random parts?

Na z31 engine mounts, mopar truck isolators, steel stock on the engine member to extend the mount forward, then I bolted/welded it to the member, and made new slots an inch forward. I went a little overboard and also used a turbo engine mount on the driver side, and welded/reinforced a 4.0 Ford engine mount to the frame rail.

And, that's the rb ic kit I was looking at. I'll try to get more pics up for reference, and a video this weekend, when I get to a computer.

Also, the vg-e has casting flash, and rough sand casting. I cut and smoothed as much as I could get to on the block and heads with carbide and polish bits when i rebuilt it in the z, but I'm no machine shop. Never really had a problem with the motor though, apart from the starving first two cylinders, and the vapor lock in the fuel rail.
