VG30e rebuild question???

i have a 1988 s12 and im going to rebuild the engine soon...what all is needed in the biuld like is there any special tools u need for the engine???

You'll need a 10 mm Allen socket for the head bolts. You'll want at least a 3/8" socket as they are usually torqued in there pretty good. If you can only find 1/4" types you'll need an impact wrench to avoid breaking them.

Other than that, the only other thing I can think of off hand would be a tap to chase the threads in the block for the head bolts (for a proper rebuild). I want to say they're 12 mm fine thread but I can't remember off hand.

Also, if you're planning on doing the bearings as well you will need to get some plastigauge (micrometer would be even better but those are $$$) and if you're pulling the pistons you may consider a piston ring compressor.

I can't think of much else off hand.

ok...im putting new pistons, bearings, seals, gaskets, etc pretty much everything but the crank and cams... and im getting the block bored .20 and another question...how much do machine shops charge to get a block bored???

Heavily depends on your area. I would just call around to different machine shops in your area and get some quotes.

Completely forgot, you'll definitely need a torque wrench as well.
