Sell it and buy a turbo. Save yourself the trouble. Modding the N/A is annoying, its just slow as balls.

Turbo comes with a stronger tranny too. Capable of 400hp, while the n/a tranny can do about 250. You make the call. Newer Turbos also come with an LSD, i know 88-89 models did.

really modding it for turbo calls for at least another vg30et for all the parts and crap. but youd be better if you just dropped in the other engine... yeah can u adapt the lsd to a 240? anyone ever thought of that they r probably dirt cheap!!!

If you're really set on modding the existing engine, there are a number of cams available. The European Z's came with a slightly hotter cam than the north american models, giving a little more power with no noticeable loss in smooothness really.

Aftermarket support is there too, Isky I know has a cam for the Z, as does JWT, Paeco and maybe a couple others.

Then there's always Nismo, they make a cam from a new billet rather than a regrind (as does JWT i think), but its not gonna be the cheapest option.

Yeah the 87 and newer turbos came with a clutch LSD, those nice 88 SE turbos had a viscous LSD though.

The LSDs were a 3.70 ratio i think, while yer 87 na had a 3.90 open diff.

N/A tranny handles more like 350hp. And the early turbo's that had t5 tranny can't handle as much as the later turbo's that used a nissan tranny. the later nissan tranny can use a 240sx's short shifter btw. as far as selling it and getting a turbo 300zx only do that if you don't mind a 2 seater. The conversion can be a pain in the arse, but it is not extremely hard to do. One of my friends turboed his 2+2 and had no problems after he replaced the injectors. He did it the easy way, useing a complete engine. I am doing it slightly harder, I am converting my engine to a turbo, I only need 2 more things, the most importent money to have my t3 rebuilt to a awsome t3/t04e hybrid.

I would suggest the path of turbo, it is much more cost effective and gives you much more power. If you want to read up about how to do the conversion or get a larger crowd of opinion for N/A ideas go to http://www.z31.com they are very fast with their replies, but be warned search first and look at FAQ section before asking a question, cause some guys like to tear into people that ask commen question without first searching.

Hope I helped

does anyone know if it is possible to swap the vg30et into a 1st gen 240sx? if so, are there any companies that make mounts for this swap and how much would it cost? Please help me

Talk to mattback, he should be near completion of his vg powered s13...it's possible but you have to modify the firewall, i.e. cut/push it back from what I understand...

you dont have to modify the firewall, but you do have to do all sorts of oil sump modifications including custom oil pan, custom crossmember, custom motor mounts custom transmission mounts, custom manifolds(both intake and exhaust) custom lines for the turbo, and a stand alone engine management system.

check out the 240sx (TECHNICAL) forum to see the only sneak peak picture i'm giving away.

Custom mounts/crossmember is not hard.. Custom manifolds are not for the beginners.. oil pan.. well that's a biotch.

How far along would you say matt till she's rolling ?

I just got my 87 300ZX N/A not too long ago, hoping to turn it into a tuner, more of a project car to build into a beast :P

I have replaced the entire exhaust from the manifold backwards, now im looking toward motor mods.
My Z runs like a champ, just needs some body work and new suspension definitely. Anyway, I wanna put a t3/t4 turbo on it, im a little new to the modify world so any advice would be great guys.

Shoot ideas and suggestions at me, help me learn a little somethin :P

Thanks guys,
Sky
