My VG30e has 119000km on it. There is no visable oil smoke or oil leaks, but yet I have to add 500ml of oil after every 700km on average.

This is real concerning as I have only had the Hardbody for 3 months now.

Current oil : Shell Helix 20w/50 , OEM Oilfilter

Ant ideas welcome

That does seem a bit high, especially since you are already using a thicker oil.So the often recommended easy fix ( go to thicker oil) wont work in your case.

It averages out to 1 quart per 1000 miles, which is considered the upper end of normal by most.

Have you checked for leaks?

I've been using Shell Helix. Just did an oil change yesterday and changed over to Castrol GTX2.

I've come across a nother board where a member is having the same problem (almost identical km's) - unfortunatly he is also waiting for some one to reply.

Pulled all the breather pipes off that comes of the tapet covers and they are almost dry. Rad water is clear. Throttle body I will check.

Got 125 000km on it.

Check your rear main seal. Your best bet is to take it somewhere you can get it up in the air and check for leaks. That seems high since it's not burning oil.

Check the PCV valve and leading vacuum hose to see if it's working engine blow by gases could be diluting your oil to point of evaporation.

Presuming there's only 1 PCV valve - that was the first thing I replaced. Noted if I keep it under 130Km/h she uses no oil.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I will move this to our Online Mechanic section and see what they say.As far as I can see you are using good brands of the proper viscosity for your situation.

Measure the compression to check for ring problems.Hopefully you [previous owner] have never used a aftermarket cone type filter, which seems to let in 2-3-4 times as much microscopic dirt......but that is always debated.

And maybe the car was sold because it used oil from previous abuse [overheated?].........since you've only had it 90 days.

70k is very low mileage.

Compession check on a VG30 must be fun. Plus I don't really want to know the damages it scares me LOL I'm just gona drive the nuts off it till she can't no more.

But you'r right thats the only way to find out the real problem - hmmm maybe I'm lucky and it's not a piston.

Ohhh yes it's fitted with a K&N cone filter :-( I've checked the AFM and induction system and it's as clean but yea lets not get into the filter debate.

Thanks Q45tech
