I have a 1993 Maxima with a VG30E engine. The car has 242,000 miles on it and has performed well over the years. I recently replaced fuel injectors 3 and 5. About two months later, fuel injector 4 failed. While replacing injector 4, I also replaced all the remaining injectors. Remanufactured fuel injectors were used. Since then, two more fuel injectors have failed. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for that would be causing the fuel injectors to fail?

Thanks, Mike

Its probably just the age and wear. The Nissan injectors are already relatively weak and you've got a good deal of time and mileage on them so I would go ahead and replace the remaining old injectors.

Mtcookson,

I have read a lot of your replies. You seem to know a lot about these engines. Note that once the first two fuel injectors failed, it was only a month or so before another OEM injector failed. I then replaced the failed injector and the remaining 3 OEM injectors. Now, 2 months later, I have 2 more failed injectors. Total, since October of last year, all the OEM injectors have been replaced with remanufactured ones. Could the failures be coming from bad remanufactured injectors or do you think I have something in the electrical system burning the coils out? The best deal I can get on new injectors is around $92.00 each. I have no problem changing them again, I'm getting pretty good at it. But I don't want to keep throwing money away if there is something else I should be testing. Thanks for your response.

I have heard bad stories about the reman injectors. If you can afford new that would definitely be the way to go but new is definitely pretty price, though that $92 deal you found is pretty good as it even beats Courtesy Nissan's pricing which is usually pretty tough to beat.

You might also try DeatschWerks. I think they technically remanufacture the injectors but they are supposed to be pretty good. You can contact them and see if they can get some of the Maxima injectors. They might even be able to clean your original injectors but I can't remember for sure, I would definitely contact them though and see what they can do for you or recommend.

I also just realized you have a 93 which should have the phase 2 injectors, which are supposed to be better than the older phase 1 as far as reliability. Those are what DeatschWerks mostly deals with from what I've seen.

As far as something being wrong causing the injectors to die early, I wouldn't think there would really be anything that could cause that. The only thing I can think of is maybe if the voltage output of the alternator is too high (voltage regulator being out) which I could see causing them issues but you would see other problems if the regulator were out. To be honest I'm not really sure what the main cause of injector failure is. I know they can get clogged and cause issues. An easy way to tell if its dead due to being clogged or electrical would be to test the resistance. It should be between 12 and 14 ohms.

Reman. is only seals, cleaning, & filterI had my injectors rebuilt from F.I.C.http://fuelinjectorconnection.com/shop/

They are excelent, $60 for complete rebuild including the coils get them all done. He also flows them and sends a print out of the flow.Usually takes less than a week.
