Hi all,

I have an Infinity M30 that needs a new crank. I know for a fact that nissan didn't build the VG30E that is in this car...ONLY FOR THIS CAR...as the local and internet parts places are telling me.

with that being said, can anyone tell me what other motors have the same crank. I need a FACT answer, not a "well they are all the same because they are VG...duhh" This motor has the single keyway crank if that helps. I'm thinking the late model Z31 NA should be the right motor, but I can't afford to spend a crap load of non refundable money to find out it doesn't fit.

Thanks for any help in advance.

The M30's have what is called the "W" block VG. They started in 1987 and were used until the VG30 was no longer made. VG33 cranks are different from what I can tell as are the VG-DE cranks. To be on the safe side, look for a VG30 starting in 1988.

89-94 Maxima's had the VG and would probably be one of the easier cars to find them from. 88-89 Z31's will have what you're looking for. After 4/87, all VG's were the W-series so a post 4/87 Z31 will have the crank you're looking for.

The difference in the crank between the W-series and non is the snout is longer for one. That's the biggest difference I know of. I'm not sure of other changes but to tell right away if its the right crank, the snout is much longer than the non-"W'.

Huh? Nissan built all the VG's out there...even the one in the Mercury Villager. Whomever told you that, please ignore them from now on. You say your crank has a single keyway? I personally have not looked at the M30 crank, but from the Z31 perspective, the Wseries cranks came with a bigger crank bolt, and 2 keyways (hence why it is longer). Do you have any pictures? Can you tell me what size thread your crank bolt is?
