Well iu dont have a computer at home right now, and ive been searching for about an hour here at work, and lunch break is almost up... Ive yet to get the full answers that im looking for. Just bits and pieces, so ill leave it up to those who know best.

I know theres alot of high power VG30DETT cars out there but ive been trying for the life of me to decide between VG30DETT and VH45DE In my next S13/S14

What i want to do is get a VG30DETT with 5speed, have the trans gone through and freshend up. And then take the engine, disassemble it, put all new rings, bearings, seals and gaskets, put some ARP rod bolts in and Main studs/Bolts. and replace the stock turbos with a pair of Garrett T28s (like the ones that came on thes GTI-R SR20DETs) And top it off with a good set of springs and JWT cams.

If anyone has any experience or knowledge of how this will work out. I know many people have made up close to 400whp on the factory turbos, I'm only looking for 450-500whp and about 300 on low boost.

Im just concerned that the internals will not be able to hold up to it. I would not be having it get a JWT tune, it would go across the state to Scott Avoy at RS-Enthalpy for tuning.

Anyone let me know on the power capabilites of stock internals, i would appreciate it GREATLY. The cams are an afterthough, they dont need to be in the initial swap, i just would like to get the motor in the car, with fresh turbos, and fresh go-through on the engine, and tune it and go run.

Thanks

phil

As far as internals go, its been said that the rods will handle upwards of 600 hp. As far a reliability at the higher power levels, it will of course be less reliable than a built engine but as long as you have your tuning spot on and aren't running it wild all day long, it should last you a decent while.

Another good option to look into is the VG30ET. There are numerous guys making 400+ whp on stock internals and its pretty cheap to make that kind of power out of those things. They're also a little lighter than the DETT and I personally think a little more reliable (the valvetrain seems to be a little weaker on the DE(TT) than the VG30E(T)).

The VH... that would be the ultimate thrill ride.

Why do you want to redesign the plenum ?, the standard z32 box is good for 500hp, plenty of sr20det's using the z32 box as an upgrade and making over 500hp without them melting

talk about bringing a thread back from the dead, thanks for the response tho.

Redesigning the plenum can do a couple things, MAIN thing being allow me to run 1 massive TB as well as lower the profile without effecting flow. When i do get around to stuffing one of these in an S13, ill look more into it, but ive seen incredible numbers with the VQ35 going from stock plenum to a hand fabricated one

I think its about time you got your finger out and got another engine in that 200 lol, I have had my s13 running close to 400hp but the standard turbo's are almost dead I'm just trying to work out what to for 500

stock internals should be good for about 500hp. The block is capable of 550+hp. The problem with the VG30DETT is that the pistons are not forged from the factory, so I would recommend at least looking into getting a set. Wiseco's are pretty good and will run you between $500-600. If you are going to do a fresh rebuild of the motor then definitely upgrade the pistons, it will save you a lot of time, money, and heartache in the long run. hope this helps.

i would go for the vh45...its more compact and alot easier to work on then the vg30dett...plus you'll have more room in the engine bay afterwards....not to mention the vh is lighter

Weeelllll.... I wouldn't say the the VH is more compact. Its definitely longer, being a V8 and with the stock intake manifold quite a bit taller. I'm pretty sure its a bit wider simply due to it being a 90 degree block versus the VG's 60 degree setup. I can't remember for sure though.

I'm also pretty sure it is lighter but there will be some exact data coming up for it very soon to find out whether or not it is lighter. I can tell you the VG30DETT with: oil, some coolant, stock turbos, power steering bracket, transmission brackets, and motor mountswithout: water pump, timing belt, timing belt covers, flywheel, and one ignition coil

Weighs 469.8 lbs.Minus turbos: 442.2 lbs.
