Hey everyone........I have tried to search for this a million times but I could not find the answer that I was looking for....I know with money any swap can be done in any car, but what is needed and not needed for a VG30DETT swap in a Z31??? I know that the motor is wider than the stock motor and the ones in japan came with RB20s, but I was just wondering if there would be anything needed like mounts and wiring and maybe a custom driveshaft, ect. I have found a couple of websites that says the VG swap can be done but they didnt say what was needed....So i would appreciate all inputs!!!thanks!!!

IIRC I think one guy did the swap and it was just the matter of switcing out the harness.... Don't know if he had to use anything special or not.

I'll tell you right now. Nissan used the same set up in 84-89 z31's as is in the 90-98 z32's. The only differences are the head, intake manifold, exhaust, and electrical. The block as you say is slightly larger at the top to incorperate the extra width of the DOHC heads. The mounts for the block and tranny are identical and you can use your old z31 tranny if you like.

I looked into doing this for when I was going to get an 86 2 seater z31, but I ended up getting a 240sx instead.

Just my 2 cents.

Its definitely going to take more than just a harness, a local guy did it on an '85 z31....I'll see if I can find his e-mail address on the net for you. I remember it took a decent amount of money and fab work to make it happen though.

assuming one already has the engine wiring harness, ecu, and complete long block.. would a n/a DE physically bolt in place of a n/a E with the original tranny still in the car?

Basically, are the dimensions of the engine mounts and transmission flange the same between dohc and sohc motors?
