So, I am a guy who collects junk nissan parts just to engineer a cheap way into some power. Here is what I have to work with:

Free 95 SE 240sx S14 5spd
$50 VG30DETT engine rebuilt with crank kit I had laying around
J30 engine harness (has F3 plug like RB25 into S14)
J30 fuel rail (to change fuel delivery side to pass on the VG)
RB25 injectors J30 plenum and fuel rail
TT ecu n MAF
J30 cut oil pan
Z31or RB25 trans with Z32 bellhousing
Z32 starter
Z31 TT auto driveshaft front half (bolted to rear s14 with carrier bearing to avoid $300 DS)
Z31 rack to clear turbos
Z32 engine mounts
S14 trans crossmember (bolts in perfectly)
Stock JDM Z32 downpipes
ebay TT fmic
J30 A/C compressor, lines, dryer, ect. to run a/c on VG

Custom items needed thus far:
2.5 intercooler pipe kit
custom exhaust

rough fit with stock s14 rack

hood closed

That is what I have gotten out of 2-3 on and off days of working out solutions for fitment, I figured since the J30 was so close I would just bridge the gap between the S chassis and the J30 and get the best of both while supporting a TT engine. I will add more as I go...if you have questions on the setup feel free to ask, I totally encourage this swap since it is easy and cheap...so far :)

Just kidding.

Looks like you're making decent progress so far, please keep us informed of your progress. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of threads detailing this swap floating around somewhere, and it seems like the consensus is that it's doable, but it isn't easy. If you can come up with a simpler way of making this swap work, I'd love to hear about it. Good luck!

Here is a better shopping list.

J30 parts:
J30 engine oil pan and pick up tube
J30 upper fuel rail *flows 240 way*
J30 lower intake manifold and fuel rail (later injector style)
J30 EFI harness (uncut) had F3 plug for dash like S14
J30 complete rear subframe and diff (Bolts into S14)
J30 complete underhood a/c setup
J30 radiator or aftermarket
J30 MAF
J30 Tachometer

Z32 TT parts:
TT jdm engine longblock
Z32 NA bellhousing (from RB Z32 I built) ...have spare
Z32 starter
Z32 TT flywheel and clutch *starter needs shims to fit*
Z32 TT chipped ECU
Z32 brake master cylinder
Z32 brake calipers rotors

Q45 fuel pump (same as TT)

Z31 300ZX Turbo parts needed:
88-89 turbo manual trans FS5R30A (same as RB25)
84-89 300zx NA or T power steering rack (use inner outers from S14)

R33 RB25 parts:
370cc side feed injectors (in J30 rail, updates the old, 850's later)

S14 chassis provided the rest to support the engine

Customized s*** so far:
J30 pan modded some
aftermarket turbo dump pipes
custom 2.5 IC pipe kit
TT front mount IC

I will do wiring and a write up on how to de-pin the F3 plug and swap a few wires around for a plug and play setup.

trust me, it was free for a reason....its cursed and everyday it reminds me of that. My luck has been weird since this cars arrival.

I need a dash harness and engine bay harness to finish it up, the car itself is a total piece of s*** and will require a miracle to be totally road worthy. Think of it as more of a mule to test fit just because I was curious. I will probably make it run, move it 10 ft forward and back under its own power and then tear it apart again and swap something else in it.....TB48 has my attention lately but proving hard to come by.

open garage, spend 3 days test fitting, have OEM nissan v6 s14.

Yeah, I'm going to go with "hate you", too....

If that car's so cursed, I'd be glad to carry on the curse for you after you've proven your swap.

You guys are fun, I just believe the VG can be a S-chassis option, I did the VG30ET S13, VG30DET SS Z31, VG30DETT Z31, VG30DETT J30 and countless other swaps and installs, enough to notice the similarities that allowed this to be possible.

But at least now you know it can be done in a short time span like any SR or RB and for cheap...most of this car is stuff people have thrown away or scrapped, I just bolted it together. Now you have the list...go build one!

Not mine. I'd much rather just build a turbo Z31 or Z32 instead. But Good luck to you.

We did this swap on Matt's s14. Did a few things differently but this swap is much easier than people have made it sound.

I too am starting to feel myself being pulled to a future Z build. I'm wanting to build a Z32 highway monster........

Nice build by the way OP!

Looks familiar Here is mine... I had a parts z32 so I used the steering rack out of it. Drivers turbo is right in the way of oem shaft. I (actually s12 god)also made a jumper harness to convert the z32 oem harness to s14 oem dash harness.

I bought a SS z31 a few years ago with a vg30det in it, I would probably still be driving that car it I hadn't discovered the bent front frame rail from where a previous owner smashed the front driver's corner into something pretty hard.

Yep, the front driver's side corner hit something hard, the core support and headlight bracket were halfass repaired,(somewhat pulled back into shape but none of it welded back together) it had a another bumper and fender(had rust holes) thrown on, the front lip was slathered with about 5 pounds of bondo to make is look for the most part whole, but the worst of it was the driver's frame rail was pushed to the passanger side by about an inch.

I do miss that car, it was a blast to drive and the vg30det was fantastic in it. It gave the z31 what is needed, more power and a 7000 rpm rev limiter. The engine is still sitting in my workshop, although it had a unknown noise coming from it when it was pulled, but still ran and would easily convert the tires to smoke.

I loved it, I bought that car blown up for $600 and added a $899 DET swap....I would have planned on Z32 maf and ECU with chip and GTR injectors from my R32 if I kept it.

This S14 DETT swap is slow going until I build my RB25 S14 and finish this RB26 into a 95SE....and another pair of RB25 cars after that.

That is the end goal I was working to with it, along with a bigger turbo of course, but after finding the frame rail buggered up I decided it would be best to just let it go.

if you use the BMW engine mounts from a e36, they are thin and will allow it to clear the plenum...

I do love the DET covers wayyyyy better...I am working on a second TT S13 now, I landed a DETT engine for free with Cometics and ARP's. I also bought a Z1 675RS turbo kit for DIRT cheap to toss on this next build. Maybe Gonna do a TT harness this time around and try changing a few ideas around.

I love my cover too. I paid 600.00 for the DET (very hard to find) heads. Shoot !! DETT intake not compatible with DET heads.

I know all to well, I had 5 VG30DET myself, the Gran Turismo Cedric with red covers had huge beefy oem rods over the gold covered DET and TT VG's. The damn thing has top feed rails and everything...how much better could it get?

I did note the lower intake differences where the injector hole didn't exsist on the DET heads on the intake holes, and the round exhaust ports...was really hoping to find a match to TT for a single but oh well.
