does a VG30DETT fit in a 89-94 240sx? does everything fit the engine transmission ecu and everything that is needed? will there be some cutting involved? how much is the swap anyway?

better break out the mig welder, sawzall, and a big sledge hammer.

better be good at soldering also. this is not a bolt in swap, and will require alot of fabrication.

if you cant do this yourself, be prepaired to pay a shop THOUSANDS just to install. then you need to buy the motor, trans, ecu, wire harnesses ect etc.

this has been discussed. search.

I am also considering a vg30dett swap into my 240sx. I have gotten a lot of negative responses to my request for information. I have done a lot of research ( i actually have a vg30dett to look at ) and feel this is a viable swap. You will need custom engine mounts, transmission mounts, and will have to move the master break cylinder. It does fit, its close , but it will fit. The z32 s engine bay (at the wheel wells) is only 1/2 an inch wider than an s13 s. So, yes it can be done if you are familiar with engine swaps, and know someone who can make custom engine mounts. I am in the process of making my own engine mounts, will post when complete. As for the growing number of people who get testy with people who are asking about this swap, remember, if someone hadnt gone against practical advise, we wouldnt have ever done a rb25/26 in a 240 , THEY SAID IT WOULDNT FIT, THEY WERE WRONG. So show some love to 240sx owners who want to try something different than the sr20det. peace among 240s

this is also one of my possible projects for my future 240.a few things make this a viable swap.one is fabrication skills and a decent home shop ( i have been welding on my own for years)if the first isnt true then replace skill with moneyone of the other major factors is if you plan on doing other part swaps from the 300 mainly the rear end parts and possibly even the trannyif you find a good wreck thats been rolled or tboned then you can get a good running car with all the parts you need and a "throw away frame" it can also generate money if you part out stuff thats good on it

fabrication skills are a must if you wanna do it yourself though

300zx are expensive to own. Everytime something needs replaced half the damn engine has to come out of the car. Seriously, find someone whom owns a 300zx and ask to help them next time they are doing some kind of engine upgrade. especially if it involves turbos. I love my 94 300zx TT, but I hate working on anything under the hood. The 240sx is much easier to work on with its inline 4.

Latest info from fresh alloy is that a z31 transmission allows the use of a 240sx driveshaft w/o modification. Apparently from some other rumors, the z32's mounts somehow work but makes engine sit kinda high. Some guy who ran out of fund over at FA was selling a modified cross member that made things pretty simple. Anyway, it definitely fits w/o cutting, but getting it to run is another story.

Anyway, problems you may think about:sway barsteering bar (it clears in the s14 don't know if it does in the s13)oil pan s13's is front sump, don't know z32's (you may get around finding an oil pan from the pletora of other variants)If the z31's rumor is true, then no drive shaft worry.wiring:, can it be any harder than sr20/rb?tubos: There's more space up front than on the z, but I'd say single using a vg30det manifold would be best. Anyway, I considered NA a more viable, yet still fun and powerful option.weight. I collected some data, and it's lighter than the rb if I remember correctly. But I was only gathering NA info. Twin turbos get heavier. Anyway, since the engine sits way back (only about 2 inches past the strut towers, center of gravity is not thrown off.

this is what i've found out. Perhaps rear end is worth it once the power is increased. I'm not entirely sure, but swap should be simple enough. Pumpkin is bigger, and I don't quite rember if the axles are any different.

people have posted pictures of mock up but ive never seen a working car, I think once they see how much interference there is between the pan and the steering rack alot of people just cant finish the project. I know one guy on here was working on it gave up and went with a kade twin turbo to be "different"
