I stumbled upon this old thread in the VG portion of the Z forum on here and I LOVE the idea. http://nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=66016 The past day I have been thinking about it and with my familarity with the VG I think it would be an awesome and unique setup. I mean can you imagine a something like my motor (650whp V6) in a s14? Would be nuts. Here's a couple pics from the thread....

Granted it would require a ton of custom work but it would be fast and unique (way better than some retarded chevy swap). Plus you have the smooth revs of a V6, the aftermarket support of the Z32, the reliability of the VG, it sits behind the axles, and there's a TON of room in the engine bay. Can you say huge single turbo?

I dunno, like said, would be hard and expensive, but would be insanely cool IMO. What do you think?

I like the idea, It ran through my mind when I was trying to think of unique projects myself. Only thing is how whould it affect the weight distribution... but 650 hp is tempting

Weight distribution wouldn't be too bad because the engine would sit behind the front axle.

I couldn't imagine trying to fit that thing or work on anything not on the front cover, but the legality is huge plus.

Awesome idea, but, that's all I've ever heard of it being; an idea.

I had that same idea once when I had my S-13 hatch, but a friend of mine back in the states said the TT idea wouldn't work because of the steering rod. He had said someone he helped did a single turbo swap and it went off without to much chaos. It would be a bad *** idea, and if you could get it done...you got props in my book. And is that one company can stuff a sigle turbo RB26, you can do the VG30. Git-r-dun!

I'm sure it could be done. Would be a PITA but hey what isn't right?

Also the VG motors aren't as hard to work on as everyone makes it sound. Just kind of intimidating to look at. Mine is pretty easy to do things with (granted tons and tons of things are eliminated).

Don't know that I'd do the setup in the s14 for sure and it wouldn't be soon as I've got other projects to take care of, but at some point I would love to. Would be my kind of setup....something unusual that nobody else really has.

Thanks for all the comments thus far btw

Actually not really. Motor swaps are only legal if that motor was offered in that chasis (in more recent year models). So ...

Here's an idea I've been tossing around with someone else on NICO - M30 TT. An M30 coupe or 'vert with a VG30DETT/5 spd swap. Now that would be smog-able/legal and the M30 is listed as the same crub weight (about 3350).

Wouldn't this be a beast .

Holy crap Rex, that M30 is gorgeous!

NSRZ32: Good to hear that the VG isn't as complicated as it looks. My bf has a n/a z32 with 70kmi that he hopes to swap a TT engine into. In the meantime, he's not doing any maintenance to his car since he bought it in May (besides oil changes), for some reason he thinks it's a waste of money to do basic maintenance like changing the drive belts/replacing rotors and pads/replacing the clutch/etc. I hope it holds out long enough for him

I can be done...I've heard of a guy at my local track that runs a VG in his 240, not if it's turbo though.

The engine only has to be by the same make, same age or newer, and from a vehicle of comparable weight. It should be legal on those stipulations...

Hey Rex, u know...the other Rex (speeddoctor) has a VG30ET in his M30. So that's kinda along those same lines.

There is a older guy with a VG in a 4cyl hardbody truck. I have seen it for about a year so I don't know if its still kicking. I missed a M30 covert with 70K on it for $3000 a few months ago.

hahaha awesome. Just gotta hammer out the details of when we get the motor and can start tinkering with it and buidling it up. Mmmm Hmmm as if I didn't have enough Z parts at my house now I gotta start keeping spare VG's at yours lol

That would be a great project. Go for it. A 300hp 240 would kick ***!

The M30/Leopard is a great car. I almost bought one when my Max's transmission went out, but it was gone the next day. It would have only cost me 400 less than the transmission repairs, too, dammit!

Looks like I might be getting a good VG here in the next few weeks for free. Hmm now I really gotta consider it. Since the motor cost won't be included it makes it much more appealing.
