Hey RF!

Give me a bit, I believe we have the FSM here. That'll be your best resource for sure.

Also, experience has shown me that when doing a motor swap, there are two things that will save you a TON of time:

1) Take pictures of the current install - From all angles, so you can reference them for the re-install.

2) Label EVERY thing that connects the engine to the car. Hoses, wiring, everything. I place a tag on one end with apiece of masking tape that says "A", and place another piece of the corresponding end that also says "A". That way, it's plug-and-play when you reinstall.

Like AZhitman said, definitely take pictures and label everything. I have yet to do an engine swap on a Z, but here is a brief write-up of the process, I do not know of any complete, in-depth write-ups as this is a very involved process to swap motors in a Z.

Honestly? Swapping motors on the Z32 TT's is a *****. More than a *****.

"Come hell or high water", well about 1/4 the way through, you'll feel hot and wet.THe problem lies in the cramped engine compartment and unbelieveably complex systems running throught the engine...like the PS lines that run back behind the motor under the pulleys and around the transmission...

Luckily I've onlly has to try and yank the turbos out of one, and that took 2 days with three buddies (all amatuers by far).

I say that to say this: COntact someplace like Z-1 motorsports, Balanced Performance or similar shop that specializes in that and ask what the pricing would be. It would probably pay off to have a shop do it than try it yourself, since t's a mch more in-depth and complicated operation than say, a SR swap into a 240.

IF you decide to go it yourself, definietly use a FSM and see if you can befreiend or bribe a local Nissan master tech to help you through the tough parts.

Good luck,

-Chet

Its quite a handful of a swap. But certainly doable.

Check out Ultimate Z, they're based out of the Chicago IL area and they specialize in Z's and do NA to TT swaps

thanks AZ and thanks to the rest of you guys, i think i found one on twinturbo.net. they have an online manual, but i will still take the pics and label the parts. thanks for the advice. After this Ill have a spare vg engine i might rebuild and put it in a 240 in the future. so well see how this goes. Ill take pics as i go. The engine when im done, with the parts ordered should be around 600hp and in the high 400's for the rear end. thanks again.

Currently doing the same thing. Only glitch that I ran into was that I tried to pull the engine seperate from the transmission. Found out the hard way that this wasn't going to work. You have to pull the trans and the engine together. Just take your time, label everything and take picutes at different angles.

well the engine swap is done and the car runs now, the only problem i have is with the egi under the hood. so im replacing that when nissan opens on monday. But when i swapped the engine i found it was easier to separate the trans from the engine. I didnt have any problem with it at all. I could send you the steps if you wanted. And i finally obtained a nissan 300zx tech manual for about 100 dollars, i would strongly advise getting one, it helps aton. good luck.

The VG30DETT was stock in the 300ZX Twin Turbo but a lot of guys get the JDM VG30DETT because they tend to have a lot lower mileage on them (doesn't necessarily mean they're in good shape though, you'll want to look the engine over before buying or be sure they have a warranty if at all possible).

Here's a somewhat helpful online version:

http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi

But nothing beats an in-hand paper version.

Congrats on the swap RFcool!!
