Hey, I'm wondering what the difference is between an automatic vg30dett and a 5 speed. I think I read somewhere that the automatic has a different cam profile.

What would it take to swap a 5 speed in for the automatic? How much do you think the transmission would cost?

I know the turbine housings are slightly smaller on automatic equipped DETT's and I do believe the cams were slightly different.

As far as swapping them, you'll need a flywheel, clutch kit, shifter + bracket, clutch fork (if it doesn't come with the trans), slave cylinder. That's all I can think of off hand.

The 5-speeds can be picked up for cheap. I've purchased one before for $250 if I remember correctly.

yeah I heard the same things, so if I wanted to convert an auto to a 5 spd, I'd need to upgrade turbos, and install the 5 spd cams, plus the entire transmission, so would saying $1,000+ without the turbos be a close estimate?
