Looking for some info on someone who has done this possibly. Sounds like a good upgrade if you're on a budget (like me). I kinda wanted to know what max boost is and possibly some specs on the turbo if anyone knows.

depends on your engine if you have a newer rb20 you might already have a larger turbo

What do you mean by a "newer" one? Mine just blew, so instead of just rebuilding it, I figured I could "upgrade".

ALL THE RB20DETS CAME WITH THE SAME TURBO..... THE RED TOP TURBOS WERE STILL SIMILAR TO THE SILVER TOP.

THE VG30ET TURBO BOLTS RIGHT ON, AND I'M ALSO TRYING TO LOOK INTO THE VG30DET TURBO TO SEE IF THAT ONE IS ANY BETTER. (ITS SUPPOSED TO BE A LARGER TURBO BUT I'M NOT SURE).

I'm pretty sure Meggala had one. Might want to check is site or look through his posts.

how much lag will it have on the RB20, also will it still boost all the way to redline?, the VG30ET is bigger than the VG30DETT's turbos

thanks

The Z31 turbo it self bolts up, but the oil lines are different and same with coolant. My fix to that was to get rid of the coolant lines and make oil lines, but my car blew up and never got around to finishing it. Also the outlet flange on the turbo is weird, like an 8 bolt or something like that, and the Z31 02sensor housing doesn't fit, so I had to cut my stock RB turbo one and cut the Z31 one and have them welded together if that makes sense.

I take it some of you guys have been searching SDU? :) The Vg30det turbo is a T3 and it came with 2 types of wheels, steel or ceramic. The steel one is what you want. I thought Meggala or someone else mentioned that you can run as much as 16-17psi on the steel wheel one, assuming you have the proper fuel, etc to handle it. It's going to be hard to find a Det turbo, unless you find someone from Aust. that's pawning one off. I'd go another route like a t3/t4 hybrid or any number of other turbos that would be much more widely available in the US.

The vg30et came with either a t25 or t3 depending on the years.

Check out my post on the forced induction forum... WD gives a good rec as to what T3/T4 to use on the 20. These hybrid turbos are fairly affordable as well, even when they are new.

done 3 bolt on up grade to rb 20's first vg 30 non ballbearing laggy but kicked like a mule the motor ran lean after a while and died piston ring land.next was rb 25 turbo ran a 14.01 @ 98 mph on street tyres 2.1 60' time good upgrade better all roundthanthe vg 30 as boost came on nearly 1000 rpm earlier. this was in my r32the current one I have on my cefiro is vg 30 front housing with an rb 25 rear housing I like this 8-10 psi is adequete 14 is very nice with an ebc cant complain worth while doing.

fitting note the oil and water line are different on the vg 30 and rb 25 turbo's these will need replacing with different units. also the acuator line on the rb 25 trubo comes off the cooler piping not off the compressor housing like rb 20 turbo's.

hope this helped meggala

btw the rb 20 comes out of my cefiro tomorrowandthe sr goes in should be lots of fun new turbo injecotrs ecu and afmto play with 350 hp should be roundthe corner
