What are all the things i will have to do in order to swap the 300zx engine into my D21 pickup? Like major things, and minor things alike?

Should have asked this earlier, VG30ET or VG30DETT? If it is the DETT from a Z32, it is a big engine so you better be comfortable with metal fabrication, unless you are also running a bodylift and/or a SAS. If it is the ET from the Z31 then it is a bit easier, minor metal work, and more or less a straight forward swap.

VG30DETT parts list.

Major things:
fuel pump
ECU
NEW engine wiring harness (oem ones by now get pretty brittle)
front half of transmission case from a Z32 5-speed
fabrication/modifications: oil pan, oil pickup, motor mounts, frame, trans/transfercase mount

Minor:
Z32 relay box (underhood)
slave cylinder
a pair of JDM down-pipes would be great but are hard to find
intercooler(s) and piping
electrical schematic

There is probably more, but I don't remember...

I dont want to put a turbo charged engine in it, so just the vg30de. I read that the vg30de will bolt up directly to my transmission, and will use the same mounts. I am talking about a 1990 to 1996 300zx instead of a 1980s style.

You can scratch off the turbo related stuff, but everything else is still a consideration. The engine mounts won't work. Not without some relocating or fabrication. The truck mounts will bolt on but will get in the way of the alternator, and possibly the A/C compressor. The car mounts dont have the right angle to meet the frame.

The oil pan will have to be modified to clear the front diff, along with the oil pickup being moved to the passanger side. Exhaust and intake plumbing will be a lot easier not having to deal with the turbos.

The Z32 engines have the starter mounted on the side of the transmission, which is why you will have to swap front cases. Flywheels are not swappable from the VG30E to the VG30DE, 6 bolts v/s 8 bolts. But the front case swap is pretty easy and straight forward.

I think your biggest headache will be the oil pan. Every one of use to put a DE into a D21/WD21 have done something different regarding the motor mounts. I know of a guy doing the DE swap into a pathfinder, but dont know if he is documenting it or not, check the pathy forums.

Good luck, and if you need pics, check my thread out here. Just don't worry about the turbo's. :P

the only difference is that mine is a v6 and you started out with a 4cylinder. The whole front clip is different
