If you need step by step instructions, you have no business doing this swap. There are no writeups because the couple of people who have done this actually have a clue what they're doing and:a - don't need instructions.b - don't want to answer stupid questions by people who don't have a clue what they're doing.

Actually, here are the directions.- remove old motor.- install new motor.

done.

the motormounts almost line up, might take a bit of filing

the trans will bolt up but not sure what kind of starter and flywheel combo you'll need

the biggest issue I see is the wiring, stock z31 electronic's won't work as the vg30de uses a COP instead of a distributor, so you'd have to either splice the de's harness of run a stand alone

VG30DE came in the 300zr. If you can find any FSMs for that car and know how to/know someone who knows how to read japanese...that should help. Good luck.

its not that im stupid ive just never done a motor swap before and i know that going from a SOHC to a DOHC does require more work than remove and install i just wanted to know if i am waisting my time or not the only thing on the internet i can find is that it is possable and thats about it this will be my first motor swap so i hope i can learn alot from this but any help is appreciated I do know somethings about motors but im no master mecanic as far as wiring goes i have a friend that does that for a living (even though it is in custom bikes) but he said as long as he has both harnesses he should be fine again any helpfull knowlege would be appreciated i do plan on documenting everything and posting it on the internet so others can do this swap to i have seen many people ask for information on this swap but know one will give any thanx for the replies though

You're not stupid, but you managed to make a post that's impossible to read? Really? You realize that punctuation is key in making a clear post? Posting one huge run on sentence is about as dumb as it comes.

I've yet to see anyone ask this stupid question, get told they aren't capable of performing the swap, and coming back saying they've done it. Not once. The couple people that have actually performed the swap did it with no visible signs of help, or paid a shop to do it. I've got $20 that says you'll never finish, and that's assuming you even start.

It's a cool idea and all, but it'd be much easier and more efficient to either swap in a VG30ET or turbo your VG30E. I haven't done either, I'm still running a bone stock 205k mile VG30E, but I may consider doing one of the two in the not-so-distant future.

Anyway, there is plenty of information for doing either of those and all you have to do is use google. Like I said, the VG30DE will fit, but good luck finding info. You can of course find info about the motor in the z32 FSM, but that won't help you much in puttiing it into the z31.

Your best bet for info is HybridZ.org

Anyway, I look forward to hearing about your progress.

I have heard that the engine bolts directly to the crossmember. I've also heard that you can use the Z31 transmissions on it which would save you the work of having to make new transmission mount points. Not sure what modifications are required to mate the Z31 transmissions to the DE.

Wiring is, IMO, the hardest part of any engine swap. That's why it's so easy to do a motor swap into old muscle cars and such. However, you could carb it and just run a fuel gauge and tachometer. That would simplify things...

Thanks for the information. As far as wiring goes, I have some one that will do that with me. As long as I am there, it will be for free. I will definetly keep this forum up to date with what I do so others know what it takes to do this swap.

It's because I'm annoyed with people asking the same stupid questions over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, etc.

Seriously. Every time another 16 year old gets his hands on a Z, they ask the same questions that have been answered a billion times before. It's annoying as #@$@ that they won't read through the FAQs, posts, threads to find the exact same question that's been discussed more than Jenna Jameson has been ****ed.

Seriously, before you have a premature heart attack, maybe you should just sell your Z and get something less trendy. Or maybe you should give the forum a break until your testosterone levels come down. I hear this happens naturally around 38-40? That's not all that far ahead for you...
