hey guys im wanting to get a vg30de to put in my 88 300zx n/a and i was wondering if the vg30de engine will bolt up and work properly with the vg30e stock transmission. also is there alot of difference with the engine mounts? any fabrications necessary for the swap?

I've done a Z32 5-speed to a VG but haven't done it the other way around... that might be a bit more difficult as VG30E's starter bolts next to the engine block while the Z32 starter bolts to the transmission. This means the flywheel ring gear is designed slightly differently to allow for the starter gear to mesh from the front and back respectively.

Bolt pattern wise it will bolt up, I'm just not sure if you can make the DE flywheel with with the 30E transmission.

Motor mount wise I'm unsure. They should be similar but I've not done a DE swap into a Z31 so couldn't tell you.

Just curious, are you just wanting to keep the car NA? If you don't have a preference you may just consider putting VG30ET parts on the VG30E. It would have much more power potential and would definitely be easier to do as far as not having to fabricate anything. Just a thought.

wow! rapid response! well i just recently blew the vg30e and i wanted to get the de engine instead of the 30e engine because they are much easier to come by than the 30e's. the only 30e's ive found are pathfinder engines in which in order to allow room for the plenum of the engine i have to put some spacers on the back of the hood to jack it up...i dont wanna have to do that and i thought i might could use the extra horsepower from the de.

Ahhhh, I see. Actually, you can put any 4/87+ VG30E in your car though you do want to avoid the VG30E that is available in the Nissan, Ford, and Mercury vans (cams different to make a non-interference design so lower power output is the result). All you have to do is swap all of the external parts from the stock VG to the replacement VG and it'll bolt right in. Motor mounts, sensors, intake and exhaust manifolds, accessory brackets, etc.

As far as putting the DE in, the only major issue I could see is your accessories (power steering, a/c, and alternator). The brackets may give you some trouble as far as trying to use the Z31 parts on the DE, you may have to use the Z32 accessories to make it work... that's one of the things I'm not sure about.

i see what you are trying to do, save a little cash since you already have the transmission in place. just for your info, i have seen the whole swap for about 1100 on ebay from j hot.
