My daily driver is currently a 1990 300zx N/A. One day though i would like to to a twin turbo conversion. so i basically decided i have two options:1) find a VG30DETT, Rebuild it and install it, for the purpose of utilizing, if any, differences the TT may have.

2) Rebuild the existing VG30DE with lower compression and a turbo setup. which i feel would be the cheaper route

my question is: is there any known differences between the engines, that would make it benificial to get a DETT instead of simply rebuilding my existing DE? (possibly head port volumes and such)

The manual transmission TT and NA VG's have the same cams but the TT's do have different exhaust valves.

Other than that the only major difference I know of is the pistons. I've heard the NA VG has "larger" oil squirters but I'm not sure on that. I think the intake might be different, different throttle bodies or something but I'm not positive on that.

For the most part, going with the low compression pistons should be plenty to make a decent amount of power. Be sure to upgrade the fuel system though, that is definitely different between the two.
