Hello guys, I own a '97 Q45 in Guatemala. I need to replace the 4 o2 sensors... I can get them for $1600 each one here in Guatemala, which is a robbery... so, a friend has a crashed '91 300ZX with a VG30DE engine with 20k miles on it for $500 (including the MT if I want)... I am seriously considering to swap that zx engine (manual transmission) to my Q45.

Reasons??
1. i can not afford $6400 for 4 o2 sensors
2. my Q45 v8 is eating my wallet (here in Guatemala gas is $4.55/gal)
3. why not?

Please dont kill me with "why do that" opinions... I really am considering to do this, my BIG doubdt is... CAN IT BE MADE???? is my Q45 transmission compatible with the zx engine?

PLEASE HELP ME OUT

BEST REGARDS
MOY

Welcome to NICO Moy. Part of the reason gas is eating your wallet is because of the bad O2 sensors. Once they're replaced it will get much better.

I can't give you any useful info about the swap but I'm wondering why the O2 sensors can't be ordered online? Sparkplugs.com comes to mind for about $60/ea for the 90-96 Q45, maybe a bit more for your Q. Short of that you could Paypal the $$ to a trusted member who could buy them, ship to their home, repackage and send to you for a lot cheaper than $6400.

The swap sounds interesting if you have the means to do it right. Good luck.

Wheels are OEM from a 2003-2004 G35 coupe. Tires are 235/50-17 although I'm getting new fronts and will go with 225's so they'll be staggered. I had rubbing issues on my black 90Q with 55's, too tall.

You really have to pay attention and hold on to the steering wheel tight with the 235's on the front. The wide fronts are great for cornering, they have a mind of their own driving in a straight line.

My '94 is the same way, but I'm running 235 in the rear and 215 in the front. I was thinking it was the wider rears pushing the car around or the fact that my rears are kind of cheap and crappy. It's interesting to hear that it also happens to someone running 235 all around.
(sorry for the OT)

Sounds like you might have an issue with your tension rod bushings. I have that issue, but one of my bushings is shot and is leaking. Also could have to do with your front camber as well. I noticed a big difference in feel and response when I installed adjustable upper control arms and put the front camber to ~0* from the ~1.5* negative.

Does the VG and VH share a common footprint/ mounting loactions? If so, and I know this may sound blasphemous to some, couldn't you adapt one of the VG to LSX kits to fit a LS motor into a Q? I love the VH and all but you have to admit the chevy LSX is far easier to work on.

I do not believe that will be a good swap, it would be major work. Also that Z is only a 220hp engine, that is 48hp short of a 3,900 pound car and far less torque. The manual transmission is a massive project...overall your better of junking your car and starting over.

What I would do is call Infiniti of Scotsdale, use a Credit Card and get them to ship those to you. They will not be anywhere nearly that expensive.

Reducing from a 4.1 to 3.0 won't offer significant fuel savings. Not the 25% you would expect from displacement alone since you would need a higher than 3.69 diff gear [Q41 stock] to provide acceptable performance in acceleration.

The 300zx has a 4.083 diff gear.
The Quetzal is 8:1 sure you are not quoting o2 in that or $150 US$ which seems normal.
