VG30 RWD Trannies

My friend just purchased a 240 for use in the ubiquitious SR20det swap, and the purchase included a separate '89 240 that, apart from the KA being blown, looks pretty cherry. So, it's sitting around with no engine...coincidentally, we have a working single-cam VG30 sitting around as well. Obviously the VG30-into-240 isn't a popular swap, and I haven't exactly found huge loads of information on RWD applications.

I guess what I'm asking is: Is the 300ZX transmission the only RWD that fits the VG30, and how impossible is it to stick one in a 240?

This would just be to see if we could do it, not for a show application or anything...and we can fabricate and modify when necessary. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has put a Nissan V6 into a 240. transmission suggestions?

Plz no flames about 'GET SR20 N00B SR20 PWNS J00' because I've been there, done that, moving on to new ideas.

The NA Z31 transmission, FS5W71C, is the same model number as the 240, at least for some of the years. There may be slight differences between bellhousings and mounting points, but I'm not sure. Early VG30ETs (84 and maybe 85) used Borg-Warner trannies, and the latter VG30ETs used Nissan trannies with a narrower gear ratio.

Unless the engine you have is a VG30ET, its really not worth the effort to swap it into a 240. The NA only has 160hp.

I have been considering doing a vg30et swap on my 240 and have a thread going in the technical area. Lots of people have chimed in, and yes, it has been done, including vg30dett engines. FWIW, I've seen donor z31's here for 600.00, complete.
