Instead of buying Rb26dett lifters to get the RB20 cam swap to work...What opinion does everyone have?? My friends and I have come across a set of VG30 lifters from a 300zx. From what we see in specs it actually should work instead of having to buy 500 solid lifters from a rb26dett, I wondered as well again, if anyone has ever thought of this, heard of this, or what, again any feedback to all of this is welcomed. Especially, since you most of you have a better knowledge of the RB motors than I do. I don't want to be wasting time if this has been tried and failed let me know. Thanks..

What's the point? the lifters are the same.

RB26 is the only one with solids, and I've read on the SAU forums that the RB26 lifters require a ton of parts/work/machining to fit in rb20's.

VG30's still have hydro's, so there's no point. If you want solids, buy the aftermarket ones. I just bought tomei poncams, because their a good mild upgrade that will work for hydro lifters, and probably meet or exceed my power goals.

personally that would be great for me. but i have set of rb26dett cams i have in my rb20, as well as an associate of mine. it was suggested to me this might be a alternative and might help the idling issues with out having to buy rb26dett lifters. its a shot in the dark..just wanted feedback since i am new to the rbs, i ran a qr25 spec v for many years b4 this..

I dont think you understand, the 300zx lifters will do absolutely nothing to your RB20, your car will drive exactly the same because they are the same lifters.

The lifters have nothing to do with your bad idle. The idle is due to excessive valve overlap. You need adjustable cam gears to fix your idle.

If you can find anywhere that sells VG solid lifters for cheaper than Tomei then it will work for you.I would check JWT or Z1 auto, Concept Z etc...

If you find anything post'em up.

Just know with solid lifters your going to have to shim them to adjust the lash. And periodically check the lash on them.
