No internally there is no difference they are both VG30DE (the non turbo ones) please search this has been covered a million times.

and for gods sake people its an engine not a motor.

are the crank and rods in the j30 forged just like the vg?

Its an interchangeable engine, so unless that's something that has slipped by me throughout the years of in-depth research than yes they are. And the j30 is a car and the VG30 is an engine which is found in the j30 (the car). I mean I don't even know what you want me to say there.

EDIT: Just checked to make sure, yes exactly the same part numbers for all internals.
