I need some help. A friend of mine is selling a VG30 and I wanted to know if it will fit into my 240. I bought the car with 5sp, and blown headgasket. I rebuilt the head and installed a new gasket. The motor ran for 100 miles or so, then threw a rodded. I was told that it will fit, but I need to know what else I need. I know I will need a 300z's 5sp, for it to work, but what else? I looked at the VG30 and spoke to my friend. He would give me the entire motor as a swap package, the only problem is, the motors coming out of a Maxima. Will it still fit?

I think the work necessary (if possible at all) to use a FWD VG30 in a RWD platform car, plus the custom work required for swapping a VG30 into an S13, makes this beyond reasonable.

There's a couple of S13's with VG30's in them, but it's an oiverwhelming task for someone that doesn't have access and ability to do their own custom fabrication.

Not all VG30s are created alike. Some only have 2 valves per cylinder and I believe some only have one cam shaft for truck applications. You would want the VG30DE that was used in the RWD 300z and J30

The vg30 your friend has in FWD isn't it? be easier to put a 454 in a 240 than make it FWD.

I don't recall that the VG30DE was ever used in anything but RWD applications. It is a very good engine. Not enough low down oomph for a J30 but she jumps nicely at speed.

Is that a VG30E, VG30ET, VG30DE, OR VG30DETT, they are all different. If the one come out of Maxima, it would be the VG30E, w/only 160hp, and heavy as hell. You would be better off stick w/the KA24E, way more potential.

So, since we're on the topic, I have a 90 240 and I have been thinking about many different engines. Anything from RB20DET to VG30DETT. I found a VG30DETT for $1200 and I was wondering how practical that would be? Has anyone swapped it in? Is it too heavy for the work involved in swapping it? Same question, will the 240 transmission work with it?

the URL is zer...age=9

im JDMEnthused, of course. and i will be doing this same swap this coming March. I have some people that can do custom fabrication for free for me though. gotta get one of my friends shop in NC to do the wiring and gauge recalibration though.

If you plan to do the vg30dett swap. First have a 2nd car.Second have a welder and piececs of 1/4" or larger metal. to make your own brackets. Third be prepared to have a piping nightmare. 4th if you get past mounting everythign and get the car start, where your seat belt. I don't think there is any way to keep it TT. So you need ot ocnvert to single. Make sure you got plenty of cash before diving in. I've been putting it off, and now got enough $$$ but fixing to move.Swap will happen once I move into a new house.

all things are go minus the single turbo swap.. not really wanting to go single turbo but.. it looks like, if i wont be able to squeeze them in between the shock tower and the exhaust mani, i will have to.

have you ever thought of getting some custom exhaust mani's made to position both of the turbos higher and more towards the radiator core support than the stock position? i was thinking about it tonight, i could get some made but.. i was just wanting to have your thoughts on it.

Of course you could get a custom mani. But my thoughts of it is thta if you are getting a vg 30 then you are lookign for some veyr high hp. And to support that HP you need a very expensive turbo. So you could save yourself a piping nightmare and mani fitment and just go single with a say a $1500 turbo instead of 2 $800.I'm looking a PT 67 and 76.

eh.. ill try it man, it would be cool to actually have the twin turbo's to actually maintain their place on the motor but then again it would be kinda cool to have a single turbo VG30D..

im actually flying up to Montreal to look at the same motor i am buying and having it shipped down to me. i think you and i should start some sort of VG30 swapped 240 group?

the VG forum on NICO is teeny. and there arent many people wanting to do the swap but.. i love the idea, its just my opinion though.

i'm researching the idea. i'm leaning toward using a NA E to get things started, then moving to (T).

yeah... i moved out of the idea lol.

i decided to go with a Stroker RB20. fabrication issues with that specific motor and its very difficult to work on within a S13 bay.

That would be the most reasonable IMO. The VG30E came standard in the 87-88 200sx SE models (USDM Only).
