why not just use the VG30ET same basic engine only mopre displacement and more available, I believe the VG20E was offered in the us in one of the early infiniti models but not sure on that, the VG30ET however was in the Z31 states and canada and VG30 blocks are very common should you need a new block at some point

I've heard of a VG20ET from the Z31, but never a VG20DET from the Leopard. I was fairly sure it was a VG30DET.

And search the S13 forums for information on other swaps. I've heard of a couple S13s with VG30ETs and even one with a VG30DETT.

Before 1988 in Japan, the Leopard was available with the VG20ET and the VG20E. After 1988, the engine choices were the VG20DET, VG30DE, or VG30DET.

I second the notion of a VG30ET or VG30DET.

The single-cam turbo mill from the Z31 turbo should be an easy swap.

Do you have a RHD F31 with the neato Japanese dash, or do you have the same oddball dash that the US car got?

AZ-Bum, Is the z32 registry going to be up soon? also the vg20 and vg30 have the same dimensions and weight I believe, sothe vg30 would be the best choice.

the reason for going for the VG20det is the cost

the vg30det uses 2 manifolds and 2 turbos...which equals lots of cash!!

the vg20 uses 1 turbo..the manifols join...for the sake of saving a few bucks in upgrading and maintenance i think i am going to go with the vg20

what do u guys think of that?

If you can't find the motor at any price, then is the cost really an issue?

The VG30DET and VG20DET are virtually indistinguishable. Very little is different externally between these two motors.

I think you don't know how to decode Nissan engine information.

http://www.freshalloy.com/site...shtml

VG20DET = VG = V6 = 20 = 2.0L = D = DOHC = E = electronic fuel injection = T = single turbo.

VG30DET = VG = V6 = 20 = 3.0L = D = DOHC = E = electronic fuel injection = T = single turbo.

VG30DETT = VG = V6 = 20 = 3.0L = D = DOHC = E = electronic fuel injection = TT = twin turbo.

I think you need to rethink things. Especially if you plan on upgrading and making more power. You may have saved yourself some initial cost by going with the VG20DET, but you'll end up spending more to get the same amount of power the VG30DET comes with out of the box. And then there's the more raw potential of the 3.0L vs the 2.0L.

DustinZ: The registries are back up. Server error broke them for a couple days.

I think your a bit confused, the VG30ET a larger bore/stroke version of the VG20ET, same intake and exhaust manifolds as far as I know, the VG30DETT has twin cams and 2 turbo's and is a completely different animalVG30ET found in 84-89 300ZX turboVG30DETT found in 90-96 300ZX Twin turbo's

If you meet me, I'll be the drunk passed out in the corner, or the one surrounded by all the flashing of the camera.....

Just ask the people from the Branson Z Fest....
