I'm sure this has be discussed before, I searched but found nothing.

I'm sitting in class, bored and thinking, VG30 in a Max, and VG30 in a 300zx, how much is the same?

other than the fact that Max's are FF, and 300's are FR, how much work would I be looking at?

Can a Max transmission mate to 300 block (seems to me it shouldn't be TOO much work).

The reason I'm inquiring is this weekend I'm headed to a Import Junkyard place to look at a 5spd Supra turbo w/ my brother and I figured I'd look around for anything that might work.

So anyway, if (which I'm sure it is) this is a re-post I apologize, don't yell at me too much, and just shoot me some quick info or direct me to a specific post.

Yes, you can use the Z31 VG30E in a Maxima. There are some things that will need to be changed around to switch it from the RWD orientation to FWD so that you get to everything conveniently, but it's all straightforward and fairly simple.

Didn't the Z31 come turbo'd as well? I know that would be more work, but it might be easier to find a turbo'd from the factory engine than to turbo an NA...or at least cheaper.

I sorta figured it would be a pretty straight forward process...idk....I just wanna do something different than just mod the engine thats in it...I like to change stuff I guess...

Do you know if there are any write-ups available on the subject or do you know of anyone who has done this swap?

I'm sure everyone here gets these questions all the time but I really appriciate any help you give me.

The Z31 configuration probably won't work due to the exhaust piping, but you could still use the low compression block to add a custom mount turbo.

Here is a how-to on adding a turbo to a 3rd gen. http://nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=158463

Hmmm....thats no good then...would it work if I did custom exhaust piping? or does it just require too much work? Or is the exhaust outlet just in a bad spot?

I saw that article, but I'm not sure if I actually want to turbo or not...it was just a thought. Turbo's seem like to much work (as in maintenance)...I think I sorta wanna keep it more reliable....plus I'm poor so NA would be cheaper...like I said...the turbo was just a thought. lol...

I've seen a writeup for the reverse of this process (installing a Maxima VG into a Z) but not the other way around. You can sort of reverse stuff, but not really, as that writeup has you ditching Maxima parts for Z parts instead of the other way around, so the parts list is backward...

Is that located here?

If you can....get me a link to that...I'd like to check it out...see what it entails...

Now here's the question...as I've been reading more and more...I'm finding that I should ask myself...and you guy's, would it just be easier/better if I just went with a newer maxima engine?

I'm just sick of the lack of options that the 3rd gen engine has when I comes to mods...there just isnt a whole lot out there...I just want more choices....I don't like having a lack of choices in brands and options and stuff like that. I just want to check out what else I can do before I actually invest money into my engine.

I finally found a earlier thread about this topic...gave me a lot of info...thanks for putting up with the redundant questions!

If I have anymore I'll ask...but for now I've got a good start...I'll let you guys know what I'm gonna do.

Thanks all.
