I might try that. I have no alarm yet, so I wouldn't have to worry about two alarm remotes. I've been wondering about how to cheaply protect my car.

instead of having a magnet (second remote w/ magnet) you can just install a switch hiding it behind the center console.

all you have to do is repalce the reed switch w/ an ordinary "on/off" switch.

i just might try this ....hey thanks for the info....slos13

Side Note:

Any smart thief can hotwire a starter, and he can do it under the hood. A cheap but effective solution to car theft is a fuel pump kill switch.

I'm waiting for my toggle switch to arrive ^_^:

You may have seen such a crazy looking thing from TOP GUN or some other plane flick. The flip cover prevents the toggle switch from flipping accidently.

ooooh okay yeah. those covers themselves cost ~12 bux. i would have just gotten a coverless switch, but I wouldn't want an accidental switch flick to happen while im driving.

Ok I've been looking online at various shops for components for this system...here's the list of what's needed...

1. 12 Volt Heavy Duty Car Relay2. 12 Volt DPDT Relay3. 12 Volt Flashing LED4. Magnetic Reed Switch5. Pushbutton that opens when pushed6. Broken Car Alarm Remote7. A Magnet.

Ok so here's the problem...while I was looking I realized I had no idea what wattage/amperage these need to be (I only got as far as the relay lol)

The relays, LED, Reed, and Pushbutton should probly need to be bought, but the Remote and the Magnet should be scroungeable. So now I ask this....does anyone know what wattage/amperage I would need for the relays, and who has a really good electronic components site you use...i've never needed much of anything I couldn't get at the local Radio Shack, and now..I don't have a local radio shack at school, so I need to order stuff on the internet. I definitely want to get this set up to install sometime this semester depending on weather, now I just need help finding components.

Thanks guys =)

If you follow some fo the links on that page you will also find this one for making your own a/f meter. Do you guys think this would be any better than my autometer a/f gauge? That thing is a piece of crap and it appears to be the same thing as this.

You could install the reed switch in the center console or on the door. If you get into the car with the magnet remote in your pocket, it could make contact with the switch and disable to alarm without having swipe the remote over the dash or something.Mecedes was supposed to use a system like that called SmartKey. When you approached the car, it would unlock the doors, disable the alarm, and activate the starter button. When you walk away from the car, it would lock automatically. I dont think they ever introduced this, at least not in the US.

a good lesson i learned when i went to school for mobile audio and security you must think like a thief to beat him. the more kill switches you can place the longer its going to take for the thief to take the car a simple toggle switch hidden under the rear seat that taps into one of the fuel pump wires is cheap and very easy to do if anybody everneeds diagrams for door locks or really anything on alarms or audio give me a shout and i'll scan them and send them your way
