People over 35 should be dead.

Here's why ...

According to today's regulatorsand bureaucrats, those of uswho were kids in the 40's,50's, 60's, or even maybethe early 70's probablyshouldn't have survived.

Our baby cribs were coveredwith bright colored lead-basedpaint.

We had no childproof lidson medicine bottles, doorsor cabinets, ... and when werode our bikes, we had nohelmets.(Not to mention the riskswe took hitchhiking.)

As children, we would ridein cars with no seatbeltsor air bags.

Riding in the back of a pickuptruck on a warm day wasalways a special treat.

We drank water from thegarden hose and not froma bottle.

Horrors! We ate cupcakes, bread andbutter, and drank soda popwith sugar in it, but we werenever overweight becausewe were always outsideplaying.

We shared one soft drinkwith four friends, from onebottle, and no one actuallydied from this.

We would spend hours buildingour go-carts out of scrapsand then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgotthe brakes.

After running into the bushesa few times, we learned tosolve the problem.

We would leave home in themorning and play all day,as long as we were backwhen the street lightscame on.

No one was able toreach us all day.

NO CELL PHONES!!!!!

Unthinkable!

We did not have Playstations,Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, novideo games at all, no 99channels on cable, videotape movies, surroundsound, personal cell phones, personal computers, or Internetchat rooms.

We had friends!

We went outside and foundthem.

We played dodge ball, andsometimes, the ball wouldreally hurt.

We fell out of trees, gotcut and broke bones andteeth, and there were nolawsuits from these accidents.

They were accidents.

No one was to blame but us.

Remember accidents?

We had fights and punchedeach other and got blackand blue and learned to getover it.

We made up games withsticks and tennis balls andate worms, and although wewere told it would happen,we did not put out very manyeyes, nor did the wormslive inside us forever.

We rode bikes or walked toa friend's home and knockedon the door, or rang thebell or just walked in andtalked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had tolearn to deal with disappointment.

Some students weren't assmart as others, so theyfailed a grade and wereheld back to repeat thesame grade.

Horrors!

Tests were not adjustedfor any reason.

Our actions were our own.

Consequences were expected.

The idea of a parent bailingus out if we broke a lawwas unheard of.

They actually sidedwith the law.

Imagine that!

This generation has producedsome of the best risk-takersand problem solvers andinventors, ever.

The past 50 years havebeen an explosion ofinnovation and newideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to dealwith it all.

And you're one of them!

Congratulations!

Please pass this on to otherswho have had the luck to growup as kids, before lawyersand government regulated ourlives, for our own good !!!!!

Just another reminder of how amazingly stupid and ignorant people are becoming. In the 40' and 50's you didn't NEED child proof bottles, because parents taught their kids not to touch the damn things. Now, the second a kid even thinks about talking back, the parent's give up and blame it on some new "behavioral disease" and are no longer required to fulfill their duties as responsible parents. It's a load of bull.

That thread is my childhood to a "T".

I wish so badly that my kids could grow up in the environment and times that I did. But I guess every parent thinks that....

Keep those things in mind, make a difference where you can.

That's actually a good Idea Greg.

Make your kids grow up like you did.

I mean, when I back talked, which was ofter , I got the $hit smacked out of me. Remember, that was only 10 years ago. Now, like mr Doom said, if the kid back talks, the parent blames it on a Disorder.

Did anybody see that Expo thingy on TV about Attention Defisite Disorder? Basically, they said that it is a bunch off bull$hit that doctors use to get more money. And it has a placebo affect for the parents. The kid can still misbehave and not pay attention, but the parent thinks they are doing good.

I remember when I was growing up, rasing a child was a neighborhood effort. If the Child bisbehaved, the Neighbors had permission to punish the child. Now, if someone punishes a child, even the parents, they are carted off and labeled as "Abbusive".

I say, if your children misbehave, punish them as you were punished when you were young. I can guarantee one of two things will happen. Either the child won't misbehave anymore, or an Officer will show up at your door to take custady of your child because some stupid teacher "had to" report supposed abuse

I'll be the first to say I was raised like that and I am going to raise my kids the same way. Also by the way I am only 22 years old so there are a few of us that were raised like our parents with the help of the neighborhood effort.

You gave us that list like everything included in that was exclusive to people over 35. I'm only 21 and I can say I can relate my entire childhood to that. Aside from the childproof lids and lead paint (I never chewed my crib anyway).

I would say this should apply to the childhood for kids born 1990 and after. I'll agree that it is pretty sad...
