Ok this is a hard one to explain but ill do the best i can. Sometimes when i am backing up in reverse my car will make a horrible sound. It doesnt happen all the time but when it does it sounds really bad. I cant describe the sound but it kind of sounds like im running into something (other people have said "oh crap did you just hit that car parked behind you"). Any Ideas?

I suggest looking in your rear view mirror.... it's fun to see the expressions on people's faces as you're mowing them down in reverse. :shocked2

Seriously, though... no idea. Sorry :(

I had a similar problem in reverse... does the stick vibrate when it happens? I don't know if it's related, but I have since replaced my brake master cylinder and the sound is gone... so are my brakes, but that's another story. LOL.

mine does that, it wil make a terrable grinding noise if oyu dont keep pressure on the stick as you release the clutch petal and it slides into gear. if you dont jeep the pressure it grinds hardcore, you can usually feel when its in gear and when its not

I had a grinding/chattering noise sometimes when going in reverse. It also felt as if I was dragging something heavy. It turned out to be my rear brake pads. Somehow they were wearing unevenly and wore down the back part of the pads without touching the front (it may have been the other way around). I changed the pads and the problem went away.

Yeah, check your brake system. If you're lucky, the problem's there.
