My s13 (DE, FB, 5spd) seems to have trouble starting right away when the ignition is turned. The engine cranks about 4-5 times before it starts, but has always started pefectly after the initial cranking. When trying to start the car, the cranking is initially very slow, almost like the battery is dead or dying, but after a few seconds it cranks relatively strongly.

I initially suspected bad battery terminal connections and replaced the terminals to no avail. Battery is also tested fine and is brand new.

Also, Leting the car sit with the Ignition in the ON position to build fuel pressure before starting makes absolutely difference.

Is my starter on its way out?

you still may have a connection problem on the battery cables. Did you happen to check the connections at the other ends of the cables?

I didnt trace the cables back to the source.

I have plenty of 4 gauge laying around, So I will make it a point to make new connections to and from Alt, Starter, and battery.

Thanks for the input.

no just check to make sure the nut holding the positive cable to the starter is tight and the bolt holding the neg cable to the intake is tight. thats what I was reffering to.
